The conspicuous consumers among us are the ones who power the New York economy: they never stop shopping, even to eat. Hence the creation of good restaurants inside big retail stores. As Cindy Adams used to say, "only in New York, kids, only in New York!"
Fred's is best known simply as "the restaurant in Barney's" and while it's generally a resting place for those tuckered out from looking at ties, Mark Straussman, one of New York's cleverest Italian chefs, helms the place. Come for the ties; stay for the spaghetti!
Although it's just a fast-casual department store restauant, Burke's genius manifests itself even here, where something as simple as a burger or a tuna sandwich takes a theatrical turn.

Everyone talks a big game when it comes to seasonal cooking, but to my mind this place and Gramercy are the final word on the subject. I'm not completely in love with the room but the food is good in winter, glorious in spring, inspiring in summer, and very good in fall.
While you or I might be creeped out to have dinner in the Uncanny Valley, the tweens who love this place couldn't be happier to eat here -- which is the whole point, after all.
Best known as the "the restaurant in the Svorski crystal" store, Kristall Cafe is much better than it has to be, and makes a nice place to have lunch when shopping in SoHo.
The best of all the restaurants at Eataly, Manzo is dedicated to meat, and in both its product and in its imaginative craft, it's of the very highest qualilty. It isn't the most pleasant place to eat, being in a giant store and all, but a true carnivore won't mind.
