"The Ave" is a global buffet of flavors. Here are some cafes, diners and pubs worth exploring.
Most University of Washington students come in to this friendly, family-owned pub for the awesome, ever-changing lineup of beer, but the sausage is the true star here. It's all made in-house and grilled just right. Try one of the sausage burgers like the Ragin' Cajun, topped with caramelized onions and peppers. For more heat, order a cup of gumbo on the side.
The perfect dive on the Ave, a street packed with hole in the wall places. Grab a seat at the counter and order a mess of spicy noodles. Yowza! The only bummer is that there's no beer -- or any booze -- to put out the fire.
Old school Greek diner. Like gyros and hummus and stuffed grape leaves. But this place shines with its breakfast dishes, especially if you order something with the crispy potatoes. So tasty.
The menu is all over the map at this so-called Greek place. That includes deep-fried mozzarella, quesadillas and burgers. If you have your heart set on gyros, the kitchen can accomodate.
The biscuits are tall and fluffy... like Dolly Parton's 'do. Many go for them sandwich-style at this U-District coffee spot, but you've got to try them straight-up to fully appreciate the carbtasticness. Seasonal specials include a eggnog-pumpkin version. Heck yum.
