You don't have to be a Husky to appreciate all that Seattle's University District has to offer. Here are my favorite places to eat, drink, shop and be entertained.
Good times, good beer and what you'd expect for bar food. They have rotating taps so tell the barkeep what you like and try something new. I love the Trombipulator Belgian-style Tripel.
Primarily a UW crowd but everyone is made to feel welcome.
Love. This. Place. Counter service and bar seating are just fine at this super affordable, super tasty and super friendly U-District burger joint. Everything is good so pick something that sounds delicious and enjoy!
Fresh salads, grilled veggies, butter chicken, pakoras and more fill the buffet at this U-district whole in the wall. Best Indian buffet in Seattle in my humble opinion.
This boisterous u-district joint serves up a great selection of brats, beers and fried to perfection fries. Attentive, friendly service, plenty of tv's to watch the game and outdoor seating seal the deal.
Weekday happy hour 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. and all day Sunday offers $4 bevs and $5 bites. Go!
Love.This.Place. Arrive early to avoid a wait and grab a seat at the counter since watching the cook work his magic over high flames is about 1000 times more interesting than most food reality shows. Great loud tuneage is a plus.
Florescent lighting and formica table tops means no one comes for the ambience but that doesn't matter since the food is fresh, delicious and affordable. Meal combos are the best value.
This stellar store has a wonderful selection of titles across disciplines and genres as well as an extensive selection of office supplies, paper goods and gifts for husky fans.
Dumplings, noodles, great lunch specials and gracious, efficient service keep me coming back to this tiny room on The Ave.
Looking to see world class dance and musical performances. Look no further, this hall is for you!
Innovative public programs, rotating contemporary art exhibits, monthly meditation in the James Turrell Skyspace and free first Thursdays make HAG a Seattle treasure.
Come visit the dinosaurs on the first Thursday of the month and admission is free. Great public programs and a monthly trivia night are pluses.
Old time Seattle at it's best reigns at this pint sized u-district screening room whose offerings tend toward the esoteric and cult.
This cinema turned concert venue plays host to a wide variety of local and national acts. A full bar is available.
Tacos (cod, catfish and yam) are the tip of the iceberg at the casual Mexican bungalow. Just right posole, chicken mole, orange & almond salad, house made sangria and more attract throngs of fans to this waterfront joint. Perfect spot to satiate your hunger after a row or sail on one of the water toys they rent just below the dining room. Outdoor seating and a Monday - Thursday happy hour 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. seal the deal.
My second favorite Indian buffet in the U-district is still decidedly a good value and very tasty indeed. Try one of everything!
I can't imagine a more descript name for this Ravenna room. Visit during happy hour and you can enjoy a couple of glasses of champagne and a dozen oysters for $30.
Pick your broth, your noodle and your meat and get set for a fine ramen experience.
Family run Indian eatery that specializes in a wide variety of big, beautiful and delicious dosas. The room is causal but cheery and charming in it's own way. It's location across from the U-district farmers market is convenient in case you find yourself famished after shopping.
This squeaky clean Goodwill has lots of gently used clothing and shoes most likely donated by area university students whose mothers over packed for their stay at the U.
Friendly staff and fresh falafel, gyros and hummus bring univeristy students and other lovers of Middle Eastern fare to this takeaway window in the U.
Indoor dining is also available in a mural covered room which regularly hosts belly dancing performances.
Friendly service, contemporary design, quality espressos and mochas plus Mighty O Donuts make this a fine place to meet friends near UW.
A tiny store front on the Ave that stocks loads of Japanese housewares, clothing, paper goods and Hello Kitty merch.
Baskets of juicy burgers & crisp fries are served with a smile at this uber affordable casual but cheery eatery. Everything I've had here has been good and you can't beat the daily specials for price.
Enormous portions for the price served up in a well designed room. Everything I had here was solid.
This large warehouse is shock full of clipboards, lab glass, computers, bikes, sports gear, furniture and many an oddity that you just can't resist. Currently only open to the GP on Tuesdays they also host auctions on an adhoc basis.
Don't go for the atmosphere or the service. But if you love dumplings, pork tendon or twice cooked pork this family run joint on the Ave is a great choice before a flick or a visit to the Henry or the Meany.
