We all have our favorite places to dine, but some stand out a little more than others. Some restaurants serve that special, and downright perfect, dish that always keeps you coming back for more. These dishes never let us down, are sure to never fail, and consistently deliver.
They have some of the best Fajitas in the city, and always taste the exact same - DELICIOUS! They come to your table piping hot, and stay that way the entire meal; thanks to the anafre, portable grill, which they are served upon. They are served with charro beans and El Tiempo’s famous green chili rice as side dishes.
Japaneiro's is a cuisine categorized by the uniting of Japanese and Latin. The freshness of Japanese cuisine mixed with the burst of flavors found in Latin cuisine is such a great match. Japaneiro's also offers a great happy hour. A few of their rolls are $7, cocktails and wine are $5 and beer starts at $2. Most of the food items are $5. Happy hour is from 3-6 p.m. every day. FYI...the Shrimp Dumplings served with their infamous peanut sauce are the best thing on the menu!
If you love or even just like oysters, you must try the Nacho Mama's Oysters dish. The combination of crispy fried oysters, house-made habanero salsa, garlic aioli, and fresh cilantro on fried wontons takes the oysters to new heights. The favor profile is extremely simplistic, but somehow still manages to have a wow factor. Hey, we are not questioning it nor are we trying to figure it out! All we got are big fat satisfied smiles and a round of please and thank you's that would make us look like major kiss asses.
They are known for having great seafood and steaks, with stone crabs being the big star. So brace yourself for what we are about to lay on you; they have some of the best fried shrimp in the city! If you are in the mood for shrimp these should be on your list. They are seasoned well and quite large, with a price-tag that will not break the bank.
If you go to Eddie V's and you do NOT try the Bananas Foster you should be ashamed of yourself...lol! The Eddie V's Bananas Foster is a very moist butter yellow cake topped with caramelized bananas that is set on fire with a rum and brown sugar mixture. .
When a dish is so freakin kick ass it seals the deal and lands you an executive chef job; you know you have landed on sacred ground (true story folks). That is what Chef Brandi Key of Coppa Ristorante Italiano's version of Spaghetti Cabonara is to us…the HOLY FREAKIN GRAIL of deliciousness. Chef Key puts her personal STANK on this one (that's a good thing), and makes the simple ingredients of: spaghetti, salami toscano, egg yolk, black pepper, and parmesan cream sing love songs to you. In addition to the song, the tableside preparation will have you dancing in your seat and don't be surprised if you are tempted to drink the cream straight from the serving dish (again, true story)!
The infusions start with 100% Agave tequila and fresh, organic and often seasonal ingredients are added to create unique combination of flavors. A few of our favorite and notable mentions…Texas Roasted Pecan with Cayenne Pepper and Sea Salt,Three Chiles and Strawberry Jalapeño Margarita.
Union Kitchen is a great spot for brunch, lunch, and dinner. If you are looking for a place that can deliver on the basics and throw in a hidden surprise every now and then, Union Kitchen is a place you may want to check out. The Buttermilk Pancake Entrée (seven Pancakes topped with Berries and Texas Pecans) is a must try!
Fleming's is a great steakhouse, but honestly, that is not the primary reason we visit. We shamefully admit...the lovely Chocolate Molten Lava Cake is the culprit. Boasting a rich and creamy center of Belgian Chocolate and served with vanilla ice cream and chopped pistachios, we will make the bold claim that it is simply the best in Houston...period.
These guys make ice cream like it's nobody's business! On many days if you hit them up late at night you will probably find them sold out of your favorite flavors. What's our favorite of all the unusual flavors they offer- Shipley's Donut. There are pieces of Shipley's donut blended into the ice cream to get this fantastic creation. Can you say...yummy creamy goodness.
