Ah, summer in San Francisco! The fog! The wind! The down parkas! Occasionally, though (and not just in the summer!), we get that warm sun and can drink outside without a heat lamp or a fur coat. Day drinking is practically REQUIRED, since we all know that once the sun goes, so too goes our bare arms’ and legs’ contact with the air. This is why you should play hooky on the next sunny afternoon and enjoy a drink at one of these fine establishments. Really… why wait for a weekend?
The Sightglass coffee, nice wine and beer, tasty food (esp. the eggs!), outdoor seating, free wifi? None may be as good as the people watching... and having fair access to their restroom.
One of only a few places still offering free wifi (get your password from the counter when you purchase), they also have GREAT food (pizza!) and Stumptown Coffee. And if the wine isn't all that great, there's still the covered patio for sipping great tap beer in the Mission sunshine.
This Castro institution has recently revamped it's menu with wining results. Watch the passing parade at one of the many courtyard or sidewalk tables and sip wine, beer OR cocktails (the non-artisan kind). Daisy Dukes and tank tops not required, but highly encouraged.
With all the great beer from the upstairs Beach Chalet room, a better menu, a HUGE back yard and Adirondack chairs, and an indoor space that feels like it's outdoor (WITH a fireplace), Park Chalet outclasses every other place on or near the Great Highway with ease.
Outdoor seating + great wine and beer + all-day eating + wifi = me staying here for 7+ hours on more than one occasion. Fantastic little pizzas, the best chicken salad... and don't forget that Croque Josephine!
This cozy SoMa resto shares space with an equally cozy coffee shop next door. And what's this? A sheltered outdoor patio where you can sip wine-on-tap and eat oysters? As if their pan-fried chicken wasn't reason enough to visit...
Come for the cocktails, stay for the food. Indoors or out, this place is pure San Francisco.
Sure the patio out front of this hidden brewpub is fun, but even sitting inside has an outisde feel, what with the super-high ceilings, skylights and trees growing out of the floor. Do not miss their fries. Srsly; break your diet if you have to.
This one-of-a-kind spot is a day-drinkers dream: a sunny and lively oudoor lot full of picnic tables under a spreading tree with insanely good german beers and food. Operated by the geniuses behind nearby Suppenkuche. Oh there are lines! But they are worth it.
Sit in the sun-dappled back garden and eat better-than-they-have-to-be salads, sandos, pizzas (!) & plates. Sip wine from the shop adjoining, or one of their interesting bottled beer selection. Coffee by SF roaster Sightglass. Great especially for brunch or lunch. All this and free wifi!
