Looking for spring asparagus from Yakima or freshly foraged morel mushrooms? Farmers markets in neighborhoods around the city have got you covered. Here are some of our favorite places to get our veggie on!
Incredible local produce, meats, cheese, flowers and baked goods no matter what the season. The Sunday market runs year-round and features a terrific mix of ingredients grown with care and bursting with fresh flavor. Some shoppers make a day of it, filling their lists and then staying in The Junction for brunch at Ma'Ono (formerly Spring Hill) or Bakery Nouveau. One of the attractions? Free parking.
In this vibrant community, it seems as if nearly everybody shows up to this popular mid-week market, held May through October. I love the easy access, either from the nearby Light Rail stop or because it's fairly easy to find street parking. Come early and you might bump into chefs from some of the hottest restaurants in Seattle.
The mother of all neighborhood farmers market, this amazing collection includes some of the best producers in Washington state. Yes, we adore Olsen Farm potatoes and meat, the incredible charcuterie from Sea Breeze on Vashon, smoked salmon and more from Loki, Tall Grass Bakery breads, whatever Foraged and Found has Foraged and Found, the pickled oysters from Hama Hama and Tonnemaker's sweet, sweet fruit. There's so much more, including regular chef demos. Just go! You will not be disappointed.
This neighborhood gem runs April through December and is one of the busiest markets in the city. The produce, meats and cheese selection is stellar. (Don't miss the greens and assorted other stuff from Local Roots farmers, pictured here.) And there's a cluster of food stands that offer a wide range of snacks and meals, making it one-stop shopping/supping.
TGIF! That's the feeling at this fun, late-afternoon, early evening market. Loads of people from the neighborhood show up to shop and sup, buying dinner from various food purveyors. There's often live music and a bunch of cooking contests sprinkled throughout the season. Very cool!
