The hot shop at the Museum of Glass isn't the only thing that's of the moment in Tacoma. These stellar Tacoma destinations keep things interesting in the City of Destiny.
Need a way to while away a day or a week or a month? Then visit 'America's Car Museum.' Not a car nut? It doesn't matter (I'm not and my first visit lasted 3 hours), the building and the cars are so beautiful you'll be drawn to them like a magnet. Friendly & knowledgeable staff, a thoughtfully stocked shop, several hands on car racing simulations and an in house cafe seal the deal.
Great food and interesting cocktails are offered up in this attractive and lively room. Don't miss the Asado sirloin burger with chorizo, provolone and serrano ham served with fried yucca or the ceviche with plantain chips n guac. Good value during daily happy hour Mon - Fri 2:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m., Mon - Thu 9:30 p.m. - midnight and on Tuesdays when 3 courses set you back just $25.
This large convention hotel manages to feel like a cozy boutique outfit in a big city. Stylish, comfortable & quiet guest rooms, plenty of swanky public spaces, a hip restaurant with solid fare and killer happy hours, a gym, a tremendous glass collection, a salon and a day spa make this a stellar place to lay your head!
Follow the Chihuly Bridge to this contemporary cone on Tacoma's waterfront. This gem houses the work of glass artists from around the world, a great hands on kids activity area, a cafe with a view and a well curated shop. As a bonus it's free on the 3rd Thursday and there are always free outdoor exhibits.
Don't miss watching the live hot shot demos that make for a mesmerizing way to spend the day.
Craft cocktails are expertly made with herbal liquers, fine whiskeys and other distilled treats in this cozy and nationally aclaimed Tacoma bar. Don't miss the Hilltop New Yorker served up for just 5 bucks during daily happy hour 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
This hip room serves up some tremendous fare including their highly sought after Wagyu Marrow burger paired with fingerlings (some of the best I've eaten anywhere on the planet), bone marrow with duck confit, a modern take on Crab Louie and oysters on the half shell. Stellar cocktails and a daily happy hour (9:00 p.m. - close + Tue - Thu 4:00 p.m. -6:00 p.m.) make Marrow a can't miss!
The younger but much larger sister of a shop that started on Vashon Island. Expect lovely housewares, gifts and even interesting fair trade furniture.
Downtown Tacoma, like many great old city centres, once had haberdasheries spread from tip to top. But alas those days are gone. Instead of lamenting the fact spitfire J.D. Elquist and friends opened their own shop featuring carefully culled and previously worn men's fashion. Expect great pieces at great prices.
Love. This. Space. Tucked behind the Urban Exchange thrift shop this charmer serves up lovely tea in a raw but charming room.
