Moving to NYC from Chicago, I was afraid I'd never find a decent diner again. I was wrong, as any one of these places can prove.
This is as precious of a diner as they come in NYC. Add a marvelous wait staff and its location (almost next to 72nd St 1/2/3 train), and it's a must-visit UWS spot.
Don't go here for low prices or consistently fabulous food (you won't find either), but do go to relive the Seinfeld years of your youth. (The food is actually decent, too.)
Kitschy charm, excellent service, and the best cherry lime rickeys in Brooklyn -- you can't go wrong here.
This small diner will take you back to the days before 7-11 took over the East Village. Order breakfast, if only for the home fries ripe for slathering with ketchup.
Nothing fancy, but lots of comfort food for budget prices in a neighborhood where both combined can be difficult to find.
Amazing brunch deals include coffee, entree, juice, and your choice of alcoholic drinks for a mere $14. Excellent service makes it an even better experience.
