In the age of kindles, iPads and Ebooks, it may seem like books are redundant. But for we bibliophiles, nothing can substitute for the printed word on paper. Here are some of the best places in Chicago to buy new books.
I love this eclectic bookstore in Printer's Row. They have a great sale section, spotlight some fascinating books in their new book section and have an incredible selection of Chicago books.
The best place for new, independent and quirky books, zines and comics.
Possibly my favorite bookstore in Chicago. It is in a cozy basement (as all good bookstores are), there are lots of tiny rooms and twists and turns, and the selection is almost overwhelmingly comprehensive.
Despite the name, there's nothing religious about the store (it's housed in a seminary). It's simply the greatest academic bookstore in the United States. If you're looking for that obscure art history monograph, this is the place.
I love this place. Despite the name, it's not all lofty feminist treatises (though, if you want one, you can find it here) - there's an amazing selection of just about everything.
A great independent bookstore in Lakeview. Huge GLBT section (including plenty of coffeetable books with pretty boys in them) but also a wonderful literature and non-fiction selection.
The best independent bookstore on the North Side. A great selection, especially of books by Chicago authors, and a cafe with wine, beer and sandwiches.
