SF gets some fussy weather, regardless of the season. Sometimes it's so gross and foggy outside, the only solution is a steaming hot bowl of yummy, comforting soup. Here are some of my favorite places to fill up when the weather has me down.
What incredible thing can you say about Boulevard that hasn't already been said? Fresh off their James Beard win for Most Outstanding Restaurant in the Country, this French-inspired SF institution of California cuisine is still knocking them out of the park. Order ANYTHING on the menu; you will not be disappointed.
Don't waste your time with sushi here; Ramen is where it's at. If you're unsure of how to order it, I recommend the #12 (Katanaya Ramen), with miso broth, and I like it extra spicy. You get a nice array of goodies atop your noodles, from egg, to potstickers, to good old fried chicken. There may be a line out front, but trust me: it's worth the wait.
Good, cozy ramen and super friendly service make this a great spot to grab a bite if you're hungry in Japantown. I like the spicy miso ramen with everything... their sliced pork is particularly delicious! They also have Japanese beers on tap & a wide selection of sake, so you can make it a party...
It can get crowded during the dinner rush, but for good reason: everything on the menu is DELICIOUS, and that includes the drinks. You can go with a classic Mexican dish like chicken enchiladas with mole poblano, or opt for something more contemporary, like pork belly tacos. As with its sister restaurant, NOPA, you can't really go wrong at Nopalito. And save room for a house-made popsicle on your way out!
