My love for the east side runs deep. These are a collection of my favorite neighborhood spots for every meal of the day (including coffee because that's a meal, too).
On York in HP, this place makes some of the best huaraches around. Rolled mass dough that's been grilled and them fried is the perfect accompaniment to their meats, like the al pastor or cabeza. And don't miss their Shia frescas--they're delicious, too!
The coffee here is solid, but I really keep coming back for their doughnut holes served with vanilla bean spiked whipped cream.
Best fish tacos you'll find out of Ensenada, Mexico. Ricky uses an abbreviated version of his grandmother's recipe and fries the fish in lard vs. vegetable oil. The salsas and agua frescas are awesome too.
Very cute neighborhood spot. The outside patio is exactly where you want to be on a warm evening in LA. Their daily dozen is the way to go. They serve ridiculously fresh, beautiful oysters. And their wine menu is legit, too.
Amazing, interesting coffee paired with great breakfast. The brioche smothered with Sqirl jam is the move. Keep in mind that this place doesn't have to-go cups so you must enjoy everything there.
If you're ever in the mood for vegan food that's full of flavor, spicy and hearty, look no further. This place has great salsas, brown rice (made Spanish-style) and really good beans. And all at a really affordable price. Love it here!
