When you think of Austin, there are certain places that always come to mind--places that truly embrace the weirdness and the free spirit that is Austin. Here's a guide full of my favorite places that help make Austin feel like Austin.
Gotta love Maria's. The Pollo guisado is kind of famous and the handmade tortillas are fluffy and perfect. Great atmosphere too!
Threadgills is fab because its simply celebrates what Austin is all about--comfort food and great music. The Sunday brunch will make you feel like you're at moms house again, and I love all the neon light decor and vintage signs. A must stop if you're in the South Congress area.
Birds is my go-to when I need a quick hair refresher at a good price. The cuts are super affordable, and all the stylists are very professional and on trend. Drink a lone star while you wait too! They don't take reservations, but just call ahead and they'll put you on a short waiting list.
Freddie's is a South Austin classic. The perfect stop for family night and game night. The menu consists of good ole burgers and chicken fried steak, and they recently started serving breakfast, which is fab for 'breakfast for dinner' nights.
This is where I first discovered the famous torchy's tacos so many years ago at the original trailer park location. Now you can get your torchy's along with holy cacao and other delicious trailer food options.
