LA's Freaky Food

Guelaguetza Restaurante

3014 W Olympic Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90006

A true foodie favorite, this K-Town spot for authentic Oaxacan cuisine is where to get chapulines--a regional delicacy of seasoned, crispy grasshoppers. Try dipping them in yummy Coloradito mole before washing it all down with a cold horchata (the best in LA) made with cactus fruit puree and topped with chopped nuts.

Sublime Food Lounge

8631 Washington Blvd, Culver City, CA 90232

This tasty Culver City newcomer is bad to the bone. Marrow, that is. As if the root beer-glazed pork belly, crispy confit veal riblettes and lobster-bacon mac 'n' cheese weren't enough, you can go on decadence overload with roasted bone marrow served with rosemary toast, celery salad and garlic confit for just $11.

Palm Thai Restaurant

5900 Hollywood Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90028

You might think the Thai Elvis belting out the hits in a fully bedazzled polyester bodysuit is hilariously freaky enough, but take a gander at the "Wild Things" menu section to discover (in)edibles like deep fried frog, deer in curry, chicken feet salad and raw Thai pork sausage.

The Gorbals

501 S Spring St, Los Angeles, CA 90013

Ever wonder what happened to the little piggy that went to market? The porker ended up in the kitchen at the Gorbals, Downtown LA's Jewish-Scottish dining destination for adventurous eaters. One menu item that really gets us squealing is the pig's head. You can order half for $43 and still have plenty to share.

Animal

435 N. Fairfax Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90048

Animal. The name kinda gives it away, doesn't it? Serving a daily-changing menu, this award-winning meat joint has every creeptastic dish you could ever want: Chicken liver toast, chicken hearts, pig tail, pig ear with fried egg, rabbit loin, crispy rabbit's leg, poutine with oxtail gravy ... and that's just a sample menu!
