Gifts for Him in Portland

Andy & Bax Sporting Goods

324 SE Grand Ave, Portland, OR 97214

For the dude who wants to hunt, fish, lay in supplies for the end of the world, or own his own "ninja weapons," Andy & Bax is here. A fun mixture of Army surplus, camping, and outdoor gear, this store is the place to go for the outdoor enthusiast on your list. Want a gas mask? The store has a wide selection. Just check the expiration date on the canister if you're serious about using it.

Next Adventure

426 SE Grand Ave, Portland, OR 97214

Shopping for a man who loves to kayak, camp, or ski? Next Adventure has you covered--and it even carries used gear at a steep discount. Billed as an "alternative outdoor store," this place has a little of everything a Pacific Northwesterner could want, including a surprisingly complete selection of disc golf gear. You can also sign up for kayak and ski trips, or "give the gift of gear" with gift certificates.

Under U4 Men

507 Sw Broadway, Portland, OR 97205

Look, all guys need the proper undergarments--and if you're looking for something special, this is by far the best option in Portland. Stop buying undies that come by the dozen and get comfortable, properly fitted underwear and bathing suits (for men only). While Under U4 Men caters to gay men, it's not exclusive--you'll routinely see ladies shopping for their boyfriends. The selection of lounge wear (ahem, "classy sweatpants") is also top-notch.

Gifts for Her in Portland

3707 SE Hawthorne Blvd, Portland, OR 97214

Memento PDX (formerly Greg's) on Hawthorne is a neighborhood classic--with novelties, jewelry, watches, candles, and clocks, you're sure to find something for the lady in your life. Check out the Queen Bee bags and huge selection of cards, and ask for items that are inside the glass display cases (especially the little plush guys from My Neighbor Totoro). Although the store is small, it's easy to be overwhelmed with options--just ask a clerk for advice.

Presents Of Mind

3633 SE Hawthorne Blvd, Portland, OR 97214

Need a card to express your love, or any quirky sentiment you may have? Presents of Mind is the place to find it. With tasteful gifts (check out the stationery), awesome jewelry, and a broad selection of quirky oddities and gag gifts, POM has enough variety that you'll find something for any lady on your list. It also has baby clothes, in case you're shopping for a lady with a baby!

Clear Creek Distillery

2389 NW Wilson St, Portland, OR 97210

Step right in (if you're over 21) for a taster of sweet, sweet brandy--there are dozens of varieties, all locally made, with local fruit. You get up to five free tastes, and the distillery also has water available in case five sips is enough to knock you down. Although Clear Creek's products are carried in local liquor stores, this is the best place for seasonal deals, and (don't forget) you can taste the merchandise. Try the Doug Fir brandy for kicks, but buy the Kirschwasser (cherry brandy) for your sweetie.

Gifts the Kids in Portland

Finnegan's Toys & Gifts Inc

922 SW Yamhill St, Portland, OR 97205

The best kids toy ship west of New York City, period. In a brand new location, Finnegan's is crammed full of EVERYTHING kids want--from stuffed animals (tiny ones and huge ones) to books to bath toys, it's all here. The store caters to older kids, too, with science kits, magic sets, and puzzles--and frankly, it's so much fun you'll probably buy some stuff for yourself while you're at it.

2900 Se Belmont St, Portland, OR 97214

Shopping for a baby or toddler? Polliwog is the place to get hip, high-quality clothes, toys and accessories. It's a bit spendy, but you're buying the good stuff. Plus, items are arranged by age as well as size, which makes shopping for baby showers a breeze. ("Socks for a 6-month-old?" No problem.)

1816 NE Alberta St, Portland, OR 97211

Classy kids clothes and toys in the Alberta district. Looking for a nice wooden toy that'll last for generations? Grasshopper has it. Complete with a play area (so the kids can go nuts while you shop), an excellent selection of books, and free gift wrapping, this is a one-stop shop for kids gifts.
