Hair removal is the bane of most women's existence--a necessary but often unpleasant beauty ritual that has none of the fun found at the makeup counter or the hair salon. We're happy to report that when it comes to eyebrow maintenance, at least, there is a better way: threading. Less painful and tedious than waxing, with almost no skin irritation, threading simply and effectively employs a twisted thread to pluck unwanted hairs. If you're cocking an unkempt eyebrow with curiosity, read on for our favorite threading specialists in Boston.

If the expert threading at Naz Kupelian Salon doesn't get you to trek to the Lexington `burbs, the elegant atmosphere and on-trend stylists will. The salon's staff of expert threaders (they don't just do brows, but also lips!) are professional, understanding and aim to please. If you decide to get a manicure or some foiled lowlights on the way out, that's just icing on the cake.
Legions of threaders flock to Fahane, Luiz Salon's resident string slinger. The skilled archer zips through dozens of clients each day, and she can happily breeze through your brows in mere moments with minimal pain. With properly shaped brows possible in a tiny time frame (deft speed is Fahane's key strength), you can swing in and out during your lunch break for a perfect little pick-me-up.
If you've never tried threading, you might want to start at this Bay Village salon. Skilled threader Amma is gentle and precise, and the vibe is relaxed yet refined. Better yet, first-timers get a 20-percent discount, meaning threading virgins have all the more reason to take the plunge.
After training at some of Boston's top brow threading sites, hair banisher Rema set up shop in Brookline and has garnered a reputation as the doyenne of threaders in the hub. Since going solo, she's managed to keep her prices low, and she zips through the brows of hundreds each year. A soothing schmear of aloe masks any pain and cools plucked follicles. Rema's Brookline outpost is practically an artist's studio for this master of threading craft.
Somerville's style mavens head to this Union Square salon for services like Japanese hair straightening and luminous highlights, but don't forget the brows. The salon's specialist Binder is a pro at removing unwanted hairs with very little pain and an awful lot of, well, grace. The salon got a huge face-lift in 2008, jumping out of the beauty parlor kitsch into sleek style. With prices at roughly half of what you'll find downtown, it's easy to see why so many leave the city to lose their bushy brows. Inexpensive + Chic = Win.
