Holiday Hoopla

Holidazzle Parade

401 Royalston Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55405

The annual Holidazzle parade (which runs Thursdays through Sundays through Dec. 20) turns Nicollet into a magical, bulb-filled wonderland, where even buses get decked out in strands of lights and magic. Families love it, even on cold nights when breath turns into glowing vapor. But the kids don't complain, because nothing like a string of connect-the-dots luminescence to keep them happy.

Fitzgerald Theatre Co

10 E Exchange St, St Paul, MN 55101

Local jazz trio the New Standards reinterpret holiday classics at the Fitzgerald Theater on Dec. 5. The show will also feature local luminaries and musical pals Gary Louris, Prudence Johnson, Eric Haywood, Krisin Mooney and more, for a buzzed-about holiday concert that is already selling tickets like kids tear through presents.

Como Park Zoo & Conservatory

1360 N Lexington Pkwy, St Paul, MN 55103

Don't let the drab, winter doldrums fog up your rose-colored glasses. Head out to the Como Zoo Conservatory with family for a holiday flower show. The Sunken Garden is turned into magical display of holiday flora and tradition: Evergreens, orange spice, peppermint twists and cinnamon sticks give the famous garden a decidedly holiday makeover.

Depot Skating Rink

225 Third Ave S, Minneapolis, MN 55401

Wear your ugliest sweater. Sit for a pic with Santa. Drink from a keg. Dance to Beatles tunes with cover band ?A Hard Days Night.? It happens on Dec. 4, for $20 (first keg is ?free?!). In other words, it's an evening of fun, indulgence and general debauchery, with all proceeds going to the Basilica of St. Mary. Is there any better way to celebrate the holidays and America's first basilica?

Heart Of The Beast Puppet Thtr

1500 E Lake St, Minneapolis, MN 55407

The famous Heart of the Beast Puppet Theater promises an alternative holiday even for folks of every age. Featuring award-winning and artful puppetry, a bilingual show, music, food and a multicultural cast and theme, ?La Natividad? brings together a diverse community for a heartwarming show, Dec. 10-20.
