Valentine's Day Planner: Philadelphia

Alright, folks. It's time to cue the sappy music, bust out the flower vases and pay a visit to the old Hallmark store. Yes, like it or not, we're staring down the barrel at Saint Valentine's Day. If you absolutely must mark the holiday, here are some places where you can insert a little creativity into the occasion beyond the typical dinner plans. Take note, as V-Day warms or blackens our hearts on a Sunday this year, some romantics and cynics might choose to sing love songs or breakup ballads throughout the entire weekend.

5 to Try

Jolly's Dueling Piano Bar

2006 Chestnut St, Philadelphia, PA 19103

This is For All the Lonely People: You know what they say, ?If you can't beat `em, make fun of `em.? That'll be the goings on at the Center City piano bar, which opens this particular Sunday specifically for the occasion from 5pm to 2am. During the first annual ?Love Stinks? Anti-Valentine Day party, the dueling pianos will rip through heart-like-coal music like, well, ?Love Stinks,? ?You've Lost That Lovin? Feeling,? and ?I Walk the Line? while the lovelorn drink away their sorrows with $5 Blackheart martinis and other drink specials. For laughs and maybe some cries, prizes will be given to the person who tells the best break-up story. Dead roses, anyone?

Naked Chocolate Cafe Llc

1317 Walnut St, Philadelphia, PA 19107

I?m Addicted to Your Chocolate High: An acoustic guitarist will strum heart-warming and maybe stomach-churning songs from 2pm-4pm at this gourmet chocolate fantasyland that pretty much feels like Valentine's Day every day of the year. If you simply must, you can bathe your sweet tart in cocoa by sharing the sensual fondue, the thick and spicy Aztec drinking chocolate, or the individual exotic chili pepper and Indian curry pieces. But please, for the sake of the rest of us, go home before licking any melted chocolate off each other's fingers or other body parts.

Longwood Gardens

1001 Longwood Rd, Kennett Square, PA 19348

I Really Love Your Peaches Want to Shake Your Tree: To steal the language from the marketing team at this world-class indoor/outdoor temple to all things foliated, ?When a dozen roses just isn't enough, surround your sweetheart with flowers.? Because the Love Blooms Saturday night dinner is so much the ideal place for flowery romance, the perfumed scent from all of that perfection--plus the price tag of up to $275 per couple--could be so overwhelming as to make anyone who's not deeply in love gag. For them, there's the salvation of unlimited wine, live music, unabashed dancing and, thanks to the availability of singles tickets, the possibility of a random hookup.

City Food Tours

1518 Walnut St, Philadelphia, PA 19102

Sex Reminds Her of Eating Spaghetti: The good folks at City Food Tours are partnering with the equally good folks at quietly bustling Cafe Estelle on the fringe of Northern Liberties to bring passionate foodies the Aphrodisiac Valentine's Day Dinner Event. During this 2.5-hour supper that's offered both Friday and Saturday night for $59pp, Chef Marshall Green will be preparing three courses full of foods that, you know, get you in the mood. He'll also seduce his guests with a complimentary glass of wine, chocolate truffles, lively explanations into the science of aphrodisiac foods, and titter-worthy games and competitions.

Crossing Vineyards & Winery

1853 Wrightstown Rd, Washington Crossing, PA 18977

Red Red Wine Can't Get You Off my Mind: For a relatively traditional yet sexy, interesting and informative V-Day experience, point your steed northward to this comely winery. On Saturday and Sunday nights, the winemakers are hosting an $89 five-course gourmet meal with a complimentary glass of bubbly (wine is available for purchase by the bottle or glass). And at 1pm on Sunday, they're offering a special Valentine's version of their wine and chocolate pairing class. For $30, that includes wine, chocolate and instruction. Getting a date is on you.
