Let me guess...you like thriller novels and you're tired of King and Koontz, but that's all your local Borders seems to recommend? You like pulp fiction--not the movie--the old sci-fi and mystery pulps but, like, you aren't QUITE ready to fly your freak flag at comic-con in order to get a few old issues? You LOVE science fiction, and aren't looking to be pointed to the Star Trek and Star Wars book blocks, but other independent booksellers in the bay don't have much of an alternative selection...? You enjoy actually GOING to a book store rather than typing in a search term on amazon, who not to mention, is part of the evil empire of hand-held book-robots that are threatening the very existence of your extensive H. P. Lovecraft collection as we speak? Then this list is for YOU!

Satisfy your sci-fi, fantasy, and horror appetite with new and used books, dvd's, and unique gifts. Pay homage to Ripley, the hairless bookstore cat (hypo-allergenic!), and check out the book club options. Or...just show up to meet your favorite authors when they come around.
A long standing fixture of Shattuck Avenue, this is a great place to find dark genre books. If they don't have it, they can order it for you at no extra charge.
If you were BORN to SIN and know you're MARTIAN MADNESS won't help when the SPIDER ROBOTS FROM THE MOON come to MURDER OF THE FACELESS MAN...you know you have to go. Seriously.
I included this because if you really know what you want, you can get it there. Despite the one-star review from one online user, I've had really good luck with Handee on hard to find sci-fi. But then, I didn't order online, either.
Creepy stuff; creepy books. Most excellent selection. I'm talking in the Comic Book Guy's voice, from the Simpson's, but you can't hear that. *snark*.
