Sure, cupcakes are the popular girls in school right now, but pie has always been there for you. Pie may not be flashy but it's a classic, and despite our capricious tastes, remains faithfully delicious--especially at these Houston bakeries. Owner Marlene Stubler went from selling pies at a gas station in Conroe to owning her own diner. Although Houston pie fanatics were happy to make the long journey north for a fix, the 40-minute drive will no longer be necessary thanks to a second location in the Heights. Seasonal pie selections range from sweet and tart peach to classic buttermilk.

Despite its increasingly shabby interior, House of Pies has not yet faded out of relevance. Filled with the senior set, the inebriated and the hungover, it's exactly the kind of place you want to sate an unhealthy craving for early morning or late night strawberry-rhubarb pie, always with a cup of coffee.
