Anyone wandering hungrily through Portland at 4am will find themselves thinking: ?Is this really it?? We're slim on 24-hour dining destinations, and the ones we do have fall into three categories: diners, taquerias and coffee shops. So while the dream of 5am pizza remains just that, a maple bacon bar or an order of carne asada fries should keep you satisfied until morning at these open-all-hours Portland restaurants.

This all-night icon puts the grease in ?greasy spoon.? Line up at the cafeteria style counter and order a platter of pancakes, or bacon and eggs with crispy hash browns, all cooked to order by grizzled line cooks. Tatted old bikers dine alongside young couples and that guy who's always muttering to himself in the corner over a cup of watery coffee.
While there's only a small chance it'll produce cheers from the crowd, this local chain provides cheap late-night drive-thru grub a couple rungs above Taco Bell. It won't do much for your hangover, but at least you won't feel so dirty in the morning.
?Best all-night Mexican!? says the city's inebriated masses. The St. John's location could be a hard sell, but the tenacious will be rewarded with cheap SoCal-style burritos, a salsa bar, and hopefully a plate of carne asada fries. Send the soberest of the bunch to order, as the sprawling yellow menu could push a happy buzz right over the edge.
Portland's most famous hole-in-the-wall needs little introduction. This downtown doughnut shop slings Cock-n-Balls and Triple Chocolate Penetration to slick frat boys falling out of the Dixie, Goth divas and anyone in between who happens to be downtown in the middle of the night.
