Chicken & Waffles

1322 U St NW, Washington, DC 20009

Several Citysearch Dictators agree that U Street's Creme has some of the best chicken and waffles around. Says Blair Reilly: "Hands down, best waffle dish: Chicken & Waffles at Creme on U Street. Eat it for brunch, eat it for dinner. It's scrumptious!!" Lisa Mathias also loves the big portions: "The waffles are huge, and they give big pieces of chicken."

Oohs and Aahs

1005 U St NW, Washington, DC 20001

When Citysearch Dictator Lisa Mathias gets a late-night waffle craving, she turns to the soul food specialists at this casual U Street eatery. She says: "The chicken is seasoned well, and they serve it in the very early morning for those getting out of the clubs and bars on U Street. It's the perfect drunk-food."

Founding Farmers

1924 Pennsylvania Ave NW, Washington, DC 20006

Lisa Mathias knows her waffles, and also suggests the version served with chicken at Founding Farmers. "They just call it Southern Pan Fried Chicken but it comes with two large pieces of waffle, mac n' cheese (which is excellent) and a vegetable that is always nicely sauteed or seasoned. Their chicken seasoning is also really tasty."

Waffle Shop

504 10th St NW, Washington, DC 20004

When asked where to get the best waffles in D.C., Citysearch fan Robin Karwowski enthusiastically replied, "The Waffle Shop!!! Chicken and Waffles, NOM!" For a waffle fix, you can't go wrong with a diner that specializes in them.

Flavored Waffles

Tynan Coffee & Tea

1400 Irving St NW, Washington, DC 20010

When your insatiable quest for waffles strikes, say, at 3pm on a Tuesday, look no further than this neighborhood coffeehouse in Columbia Heights. Waffles are served here all day, every day; go the traditional route or try flavors--like chocolate chip--offered on daily special. With the free Wi-Fi, you can bring your laptop and eat them all day long.

Tabard Inn Restaurant

1739 N St NW, Washington, DC 20036

The restaurant at the Tabard Inn is always a local favorite when it comes to brunch, and the delicious seasonal entrees usually include a waffle as well. Whether they're pumpkin, gingerbread, coconut or toasted pecan, you can't go wrong with the waffle of the day and Tabard's homemade vanilla whipped cream on top.

Diner Style

Open City

2331 Calvert St NW, Washington, DC 20008

This beloved Woodley Park diner is always packed for weekend brunch. A big reason? The chai waffles, recommended by both Citysearch twitter follower @jdalfeen and Citysearch fan Kaoru Yamamoto. The tea spices add a special kick to plain batter.

Silver Diner

3200 Wilson Blvd, Arlington, VA 22201

Says Citysearch Dictator and Arlington resident Krista Lundberg, "As cheesy as this is, Silver Diner in Clarendon has amazing Belgian waffles and they are even better after leaving the bars at 2am or waking up at 11am."

Dessert Waffles

Locolat Cafe

1781 Florida Ave Nw, Washington, DC 20009

Though waffles come in both sweet and savory varieties at this small cafe, Belgium-born pasty chef Niel Piferoen excels where chocolate is involved. Choose Belgian (thick) or liege (dense and crispy) and dress up the powdered sugar and whipped cream toppings with a drizzling of warm chocolate.

Belga Cafe

514 8th St SE, Washington, DC 20003

Citysearch fan Amisha Patel recommends the waffle dessert at this Belgian cafe. The vanilla-flavored waffle is topped with chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream. Want to make it an entire waffle day? Belga has waffles on every menu; start with the brunch version covered in Nutella, get a sandwich with waffled bread for lunch and get the salad with garlic waffles at dinner before feasting on the decadent dessert.
