Boston's Outdoor Bars

Ristorante Fiore

250 Hanover St, Boston, MA 02113

The North End is prized (and envied) for its proliferation of rooftop gathering spaces, and Fiore's lush sky-facing expanse is one of the neighborhood's finest. Meander up-up-up through the restaurant's stairwells to arrive at a verdant roof bar to enjoy a grand view of the city just beyond your nose.

45 1/2 Mount Auburn St, Cambridge, MA 02138

If you didn't already know about the outdoor area at Daedalus, you might not discover it tucked away one level up from the main restaurant and facing the ever-quiet Bow Street. The patio is the best part about dining or enjoying beverages at Daedalus. Pair that with a solid beer selection and some fun surprises (Original Sin cider), and you have a recipe for a fine summer evening.

40 Edwin H Land Blvd, Cambridge, MA 02141

The best outdoor bars have waterfront views to go along with them. ArtBar is situated behind the Royal Sonesta hotel abutting a quiet section of the Charles. The restaurant boasts a full bar both inside and out on the patio. The food is just as good as the drink selection, so plan to enjoy a meal here along with a cocktail.

Legal Sea Foods - Charles Square

20 University Rd, Cambridge, MA 02138

When Friday at 5pm comes around in the warmer months, the Legal Sea Foods bar outside the Charles Hotel is hopping. Folks come here to catch whatever game is playing or just unwind at the end of the day. You'll be lucky to snag a seat, but if you are stuck standing, you won't be alone; the crowds usually stands two or three people deep.

The OtherSide Cafe

407 Newbury St, Boston, MA 02115

Arguably the second most lovely three-word phrase in the English language: four-dollar drafts. The OtherSide is a broke downtown hipster's dream, especially with its wooden patio dependably swarmed with fixed-gear bikes, neon Ray-Bans and only the most googly-eyed Boston terriers. Drink beer, nosh down, chill out.

Tremont 647

647 Tremont St, Boston, MA 02118

Tremont's sidewalk patio--dotted with summer beers and pomegranatinis--sums up the perfect blend of South End spunk: a bit of seen-and-be-seen energy mingling with a casual, let-your-hair-down vibe. Go on Sunday afternoons to experience a sausage slumber party (hellooo, it's pajama brunch), or on Tuesday evenings for $2 tacos.

OM Restaurant and Lounge

92 Winthrop St, Cambridge, MA 02138

The indoor lounge at OM is nothing to sniff at--its waterfall sculpture and glowing bar are dreamy--but when warm weather hits, OM's wrap-around patio is ambiance incarnate. Sit along Winthrop Street's sidewalk to wrangle the best Harvard Square people-watching, but for candle-lit canoodling, we recommend the hushed side garden.
