Amy's Ice Cream has been a tradition since Amy Miller opened the first shop in 1984 and, lucky for us, is still going strong. Tourists and Austin ex-pats grabbing their last taste of Austin aim for homemade flavors such as Mexican vanilla, sweet cream and--for the true Texan, Shiner Bock.
Situated before Austin-Bergstrom Airport's security checkpoint, this upstairs cafe not only provides optimal people-watching, but also serves as the ideal meeting point for travelers and greeters that like to hug it out. More importantly, beer is nearly $2 cheaper here than within the passenger concourse.
1971 saw South Congress hosting the first site of this small sandwich shop, but it's clearly made some pretty big moves since then. You can snag their fresh salads and sandwiches over grandiose square mileage throughout Texas, but for those on the go, find it near Gate 12.
