Where I would take you out to eat on Capitol Hill

There are LOTS of great places to eat on Capitol Hill but I tend to frequent just a handful of them. I think I have been to most of the restaurants on the Hill at least once, but here is where I would take friends or suggest we eat if you came to visit my hood.

Brunch

Coastal Kitchen

429 15th Ave E, Seattle, WA 98112

I love that you can get breakfast or brunch here any day of the week. My personal favorite is the the Goat Cheese Rumble. I always get that or one of the featured specials. On the weekends prepare to get up early, or wait in a line. Big parties will wait longer, while a party of 2 can sneak in much sooner. You can of course have lunch and dinner here as well. They have great desserts and if you follow them on Twitter you can find out some secret happy hour offers.

Lunch

Homegrown

1531 Melrose Ave, Seattle, WA 98122

This place is new but I'm already in love. The Turkey, Bacon Avocado sandwich is a must order though it is a tough call between that and the Prosciutto, Melon and Burrata Grilled Cheese (Burrata coming from the Calf and Kid next door and being similar to a Mozzarella). Their beet salad was also amazingly delish and the dressing that comes with it is addictive. Run, don't walk, there for lunch today.

Po Dog

1009 E Union St, Seattle, WA 98122

I seem to end up here every Friday or Saturday. They have some interesting wieners on the menu but you can get a simple dog with the fixen's if you must. I love the buns here. They are not your average hot dog roll. I tend to think of this place as a lunch time spot or a quick dinner fix, but they also have breakfast dog with scrambled eggs on it if you want a wiener in you as soon as you wake up. Um...you should also follow them on Twitter because their tweets are hilarious.

Honey Hole

703 E Pike St, Seattle, WA 98122

Honey Hole is my number 1 go to restaurant for lunch. There isn't a bad thing on their menu. Everything is delicious, and there are items for meat lovers and vegans alike. I am very partial to eating lunch here and not dinner. I just like the atmosphere as a lunch joint better. Plus for whatever reason, the french fries taste way better during the day. I think the lunch crew puts more seasoning on them than the night crew. If you MUST have a suggestion I recommend the Bellissimo, the Double Wide, the Fast Eddie or the Wave Rider.

Dinner

Plum Bistro

1429 12th Ave, Seattle, WA 98122

The first time I went here I didn't know it was a vegan restaurant. Honestly, after looking at the menu for a few minutes I was going to leave. I thought, If I was with a vegan I would stay, but WHY eat vegan if I don't have to...then the server walked by with a plate of food..."THAT looked good". "Oh, what are THEY eating?" "What is THAT!?!" Everything looked so delicious, and I was hungry so I stayed. Boy am I glad I did. They have amazingly hearty and tasty dishes there. I have only been for dinner and think the place has enough fanciness to it to be a great impress your date spot (especially if they're vegan). I can personally recommend the Cornmeal Encrusted Seitan Steak, Orange-Balsamic Glased Tempeh and The Crazy Jamaican Burger. They serve breakfast daily too but I've not tried it yet. If you do let me know how it is!

Smith

332 15th Ave E, Seattle, WA 98103

Want a good burger and a beer on tap? Come to Smith. Have a more adventurous palette? Well they have Marrow Bone and Rabbit Salad on the menu too, so that should suite you. This place is homey and warm and friendly in the winter and open and airy in the summer. This is a great spot to go with a group and get kind of loud while your enjoying your pub fare.

Barrio - Capitol Hill

1420 12th Ave, Seattle, WA 98122

If you are in the mood for some Tequila or a fancy mixed drink come here. The place is a bit dark unless you are sitting by a window, so don't hope to see your food as your eating, but it is a fun place to canoodle with your dinner date especially if you get one of the round booths. The food is good, but you really should go if you're in a drinking mood.

Deluxe Bar and Grill

625 Broadway E, Seattle, WA 98102

This place is a little more casual and a bit cheaper than my other picks, but the food is just as great (if not as fancy). This is another place to go to get a great burger, though they do have nice big salads too. They have pool tables in the back as well. There is really so much on their menu that it is great for big groups since you're likely to please everyone here.
