Shake It! Best Places for Milkshakes in D.C.

Quick, portable, and always delicious, milkshakes are a perfect summer dessert. Maybe you'll have to suck them down quickly before they melt in the D.C. heat, but that's no matter--these milkshakes are so good you'll finish them in one sip. (Pictured: A milkshake from Ted's Bulletin)

Places to Get Great Milkshakes in Washington, D.C.

Ted's Bulletin

505 8th St SE, Washington, DC 20003

Ted's serves the usual shakes in standard flavors like vanilla and chocolate, but also includes unique ones like S?mores and Cherry Vanilla. And if that's not enough, Ted's goes the extra mile for the adults: you can get boozy shakes in flavors both inspired by and featuring liquors and cocktails. Love to drink a classic grasshopper? Try it in milky, icey form in a Grasshopper shake. Other crazy but awesome flavors include Tequila Sunrise and Fuzzy Navel.

Ben's Chili Bowl

1213 U St NW, Washington, DC 20009

Yes, Ben's is beloved for its half-smokes, but did you know you can get a shake with it? They have a limited choice of flavors like vanilla and chocolate, but if you're looking for a more grown-up, fruity flavor, try their Pina Colada shake.

The Diner

2453 18th St NW, Washington, DC 20009

As any typical diner should, this Adam's Morgan eatery serves good ol? fashioned shakes along with it's standard American greasy-spoon fare. They offer 3 basic flavors (they're a diner after all, why get fancy?) in vanilla, chocolate and strawberry, for $5.

Artfully Chocolate Kingsbury Confections, ACKC

1529 14th St NW, Washington, DC 20005

This Logan Circle dessert cafe/chocolate shop is known for its delicious and decadent hot chocolates, but did you know you can get them in milkshake form? Yup ? perfect for the summer months, any of ?The Divas? are offered in shake form, for $5.75. Try my personal fave, the Charo, filled with rich chocolate and Ghirardelli caramel.

Georgetown Scoops

2818 Pennsylvania Ave NW, Washington, DC 20007

DC's newest ice cream shop recently opened on the edge of Georgetown on M St. and folks are already flocking to get some scoops. But get shakes here as well; they'll have the variety of ice creams to mix with. GS also has two sizes for their shakes: get a regular for $4.50 and a large for $5.

BGR The Burger Joint

1514 Connecticut Ave NW, Washington, DC 20036

Local chain BGR The Burger Joint includes 3 classic flavors in its menu that are served daily: vanilla bean, double chocolate and strawberry. But they also feature a special ?Flavor of the Month,? like Peach.
