LA's Best Beer Floats

The Golden State

426 N Fairfax Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90036

Winner of last years Beer Float Showdown, Golden State's beer float is the standard by which all other floats are measured. Made with the famed brown-bread ice cream from Scoops and Old Rasputin Imperial Stout, it's the perfect caramel and creamy combination you never knew you wanted.

Even though they were the runner-up in the Beer Float Showdown, Bottlerock still makes a mean beer float. And not just one--they have multiple options for the beer float enthusiast. The most popular is probably the Coffee Toffee Beer Float made with Old Rasputin beer and a scoop of Coffee Toffee ice cream from Milk Creamery. Bonus: Their ice cream flavors rotate, but you can always mix and match an ice cream and a beer, even if it's not on the menu.

229 Manhattan Beach Blvd, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266

This laidback ?burgers and beer? spot in Manhattan Beach is known for having a great brew selection, so it's no surprise that they also offer a beer float. Try the Beer Malt which keeps it simple with Old Viscosity beer and vanilla bean ice cream. It's simply delicious.

Umami Burger

4655 Hollywood Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90027

If you've been to more than one Umami Burger location, you've probably noticed some subtle differences in each of their menus. One item that isn't a standard at all locations is the Espresso Stout Beer Float, which you can only get at the Hollywood outpost. Rich Hitachino Stout make it an intensely flavorful treat that's sure to, uh, float your boat.

Pizza Fusion

7950 W Sunset Blvd # 104, Los Angeles, CA 90046

Pizza Fusion's beer float is a refreshing one both in taste and originality. While the majority of beer floats you find take the heavy, dark, stout route, this organic pizza joint lightens things up by using Lindemans Lambic Peche (peach beer) with vanilla gelato. It's not as heavy as the other floats out there, but it's very sweet. The fruity flavor makes it the perfect dessert drink--especially if you're a girl.

Essex Public House

6683 Hollywood Blvd, Hollywood, CA 90028

This American-style gastropub in the heart of Hollywood takes the beer float to the next level with some sweet experimentation. First up is the Espresso Bi-ru Beer Float made with Hitachino Nest Espresso Stout and vanilla ice cream that's then covered with crumbled Oreos. The second is the Blueberry Bomber made with chocolate ice cream and Sea Dog Blueberry Wheat Ale that must be tasted to be believed. According to the owner, you'll swear you're having blueberry pancakes. Because seriously, what could be better than blueberry pancakes that give you a buzz?
