Sure, the bells and whistles of a fancy salon are nice--who doesn't love a good scalp massage with their glass of champagne?--but in these tough times, sometimes all you really need is a good, affordable cut. If "cheap haircut? calls to mind childhood memories of bad bowl styles and thick bangs that took you years to grow out, relax. These spots may be thrifty, but you'll leave happy--with good hair and even enough cash leftover for that glass of champagne.

A beauty college is admittedly always going to be a little hit-or-miss, but there are more hits than misses at this family-owned training facility in Hayes Valley. Supervised student cuts (complete with scalp treatment, shampoo and finish/style) are just $23.
With women's cuts that hover in the $50-$65 range, this off-the-beaten-path Cole Valley salon is certainly not the cheapest spot on this list. It does, however, deliver a more traditional salon-pampering experience for about two-thirds of what you'd pay at similar SF salons.
And, finally, for the dudes: At about $30 for a men's cut, this barbershop falls somewhere between Supercuts (a guaranteed waste of $15) and your high-maintenance girlfriend's Maiden Lane salon (realistically, way more than what you need).
