This starts with selecting the right venue or activity. If your idea of the perfect Valentine's Day date is the traditional dinner and a movie, you'll want to start your night at the Rainbow Lodge, widely considered to be the most romantic restaurant in Houston. Despite the cozy log-cabin setting, this restaurant has a sophisticated elegance thanks to the superb service, crisp white linens and delectable menu of wild game and fresh seafood. Enjoy the crackle of the fireplaces and views of the gardens while you dine, then take your date for a walk through the beautiful one-acre grounds.
The word museum might not scream romance, but a museum date can be a cheap and easy way to woo that special someone. Located amid a variety of popular venues in the city's museum district, the Houston Museum of Natural Science just might be the perfect place to set the romantic mood. Snuggle up in the IMAX theater, gaze at the stars in the Planetarium or marvel at the beauty of nature--and your beloved--in the Butterfly Center. The museum has been known to host special Valentine's Day events, so visit their website or call for more details.
There are plenty of places for fine dining in Houston, but Sambuca Houston is a great option if you really want to set the mood and make it a fun night out. Located in downtown Houston, within the historic Rice Hotel, Sambuca oozes ambiance, serves up fine food and features live music to set the tone. There's no need to stress about getting from the lounge, to the restaurant, to the entertainment venue--make it a one-stop night with drinks, dinner and dancing all in one casually classy locale.
Mmmm, chocolate. The Chocolate Bar, a Houston original with two locations in the city, is a perfect option if your Valentine has a serious sweet tooth. You won't find any alcohol on this bar's menu, but a sugar buzz is a definite possibility. Go all out and feed each other fresh strawberries dipped in chocolate or split a chocolate pizza.
Those looking for a relationship reboot might consider extending the Valentine's Day date into a weekend getaway for two. If you don't have the time to travel far, don't fret--a romantic weekend can be planned not far from home at The Houstonian Hotel, Club, & Spa. Make sure to book a couple's massage at the on-site Trellis Spa and enjoy a world-class meal at Olivette. For a splurge, spring for the Presidential Suite, which offers a Jacuzzi and fireplace, among other amenities.
