Updated: March 20, 2009
There's nothing worse than being a few drinks in and discovering that the only available bar fuel lies in a couple of stale nuts, napkin-greasing kernels or--horrors!--nothing at all. Rest easy, we have five places where you'll be treated with bowls worthy of scrumptious snarfage. Well, don't mind if we do....

When life hands you pizza dough ... make breadsticks. At this flatbread destination's wrap-around, minimalist bar, you can expect canisters holding tall, twisted, baked breadsticks crusted in Parmesan and red pepper. A crispy snack paired with a glass of Nero D'Avola, and beautiful enough to stand in as avant, edible centerpieces. Bites, hyped.

Befitting its gold-inflected, old-school Orientalism meets modern Asian sass, you wouldn't expect your ordinary bowl of nuts at the bar. Extending your bar seat longevity (along with the likes of lychee martinis and mango margaritas, of course) is a searing mix of spicy wasabi peas. So addictive that you'll pop them quickly, but it bears warning: Horseradish brain freeze happens to the best of us.

Timing is everything. You could very well pay $3 for this magical snack, an addictive mix of sweet, dried fruit and toasted nuts, but what would be the fun in that? Head there Monday through Thursday, when from 5pm to 9pm the nuts are free (other specials include $4 sandwiches and sweets for a buck), and probably the best thing going all night. As we said--magical.

The Boston Harbor Hotel's main dining room attracts serious foodies and oenophiles, but the bar is also a worthy destination, thanks to its inventive cocktails and free homemade veggie chips. Gaze into the water, kick back with a drink and crunch-crunch-crunch your way to a stellar evening.

Didn't you know that knowledge is power? The time to slip into the Langham's grand, money-themed lounge is during the lunch hour, when the thick-cut and salty housemade potato chips are free and bottomless at the bar. Come evening, you have to pay for them (dearly) off the menu, so play your cards right and do your part to bring back the liquid lunch.
