Chacho's
Read Reviews6006 Westheimer Rd, Houston, TX 77057 (map)
"Fast and fresh Tex-Mex spot that serves breakfast all day and night. They serve huge margaritas and the food portions are enormous. Interesting people-watching place."
-
Kenny & Ziggy's New York Deli
Read Reviews2327 Post Oak Blvd, Houston, TX 77056 (map)
"What's a real New York deli doing in Texas? It's doing well. Sandwiches built for two people with actual friendly service. Save room for the cheesecake and an egg cream."
-
Downing Street Ltd
Read Reviews2549 Kirby Dr, Houston, TX 77019 (map)
"A laid back place to try over 70 scotches and 40 bourbons. I've got a cigar locker in the walk-in humidor, so I hang out there often. Soft couches and good sandwiches make the drinks go down easier. And bring your laptop for the free WiFi."
-
Massa's Restaurant
Read Reviews1160 Smith St, Houston, TX 77002 (map)
"A downtown fixture since the 1940s. Since Michael Massa added a bar this has become a nice stop on the way home and for visitors hanging out before theater or an Astros game."
-
Central Market
Read Reviews3815 Westheimer Rd, Houston, TX 77027 (map)
"One of my favorite things to do on a weekend is to walk the aisles of this high-concept grocery store. You can get full from sampling all the food, wine and snacks. It has an outdoor cafe for a great place to eat a custom-built sandwich."
-
Uptown Sushi
Read Reviews1131 Uptown Park Blvd Ste 14, Houston, TX 77056 (map)
"It's located in the swank Uptown Park near the Galleria, and Thursday nights are hopping. The sushi is out of this world, and make sure you try the sesame dressing on the salad."

-
Iron Works Barbeque
Read Reviews100 Red River St, Austin, TX 78701 (map)
"I didn't find this place until after I graduated from UT, but it's the first stop I make when I return to Austin. It's located in an old blacksmith's shop in the shadow of the convention center. The sauce is incredible and you can smell the food for blocks."
-
Satisfied Frog-Frontier Town
Read Reviews6245 E Cave Creek Rd, Cave Creek, AZ 85331 (map)
"I used to visit this hole-in-the-wall north of Phoenix when there was only a two-lane dirt road to get there. There are now highways up to Cave Creek, but for down-home food with peanuts on the floor, this is the place. And make sure to grab a six-pack of Chili Beer with a jalapeno in the bottle. Lime is for wimps!"
-
Fashion Island
Read Reviews401 Newport Center Dr, Newport Beach, CA 92660 (map)
"My family visits SoCal every year and we stay in a house near this outdoor entertainment and shopping center. The weather is always great and you can grab tons to eat while shopping. Don't miss the outdoor summer concert series and Wahoo's Fish Taco."
-
Campisi's Egyptian Restaurant
Read Reviews5610 E Mockingbird Ln, Dallas, TX 75206 (map)
"I'm originally from Dallas and this is the original pizza and Italian joint. Everyone famous passing through town stops here for the oval-shaped pizza the Campisi family brought to Big D back in 1946."
