223 Allen St Inc

"Notice this is on the same street as the aforementioned "diner" and therefore the precursor to the chicken fingers. My friends and I have been hitting this bar forever. There are no lights, no plumbing and often no concern of who sees you there and what they see you doing."

Merlin's

"This place is no joke. It's a bar that opens at 10am and closes at 4am the next day! At any time on any night, you'll see the same 10 grizzled old men at the bar and at least two of them will be asleep. It has a fireplace and a disabled bartender who once told me his nickname was "Hammer" because his parents hit him with a hammer. One time, I was sitting outside on the patio, and a dude pulled up in a Chrysler, opened all 4 of his doors and cranked up a mixed tape that he had compiled which contained only famous guitar solos."

Jim's Steak-Out

"This is a Buffalo staple for greasy food late at night. It's open until 5am, and since bars let out at 4, that gives you a full hour to stumble in and order more food than you'll be able to finish in the next week. They have any sort of sub or taco you can imagine, but the best is the BBQ chicken finger sub with bleu cheese and hot sauce. This is the sole reason most Buffalonians look like they do."

Spot Coffee Elmwood Cafe

"This is a local coffee shop that has none of the Starbucks-pretentious ennui. It's a great alternative to hitting a bar on a snowy night (which are plenty in buffalo), and you know for certain you'll be in perfect condition to drive home afterwards."

Mondo Video
Write a review3268 Main St, Buffalo, NY 14214 (map)
"Though no longer in existence, Mondo Video was the greatest Video/DVD store that I have ever been to. They had thousands and thousand of movies you'll feel stupid for never hearing of from all over the world. They had everything. Everything. I even found an old home movie my mom made when I was 13. The guy at the counter would exhaust you with his knowledge of cinema, but it made me feel proud to walk out of there having carried on a conversation that lasted more than a few seconds without once having said, "Bruckheimer."

Deep Sushi
Read Reviews2624 Elm St, Dallas, TX 75226 (map)
"This is the greatest sushi that I've ever eaten. I could sit there for weeks and never eat the same thing twice. Plus, interesting bartenders actually converse with you while you drink sake instead of feigning interest for tips. At least, that's what I'm convinced of while drinking sake and tipping them."

Detroit Bar
Read Reviews843 W. 19th St., Costa Mesa, CA 92627 (map)
"Since I can't turn on my TV without seeing a show about people from Orange County California, it's nice to go to a bar that?s so dark you don't have to: great music and great friends."
