At Home: Atlanta

  1. 1 4 Star Rating: Recommended Dwarf House

461 N Central Ave, Hapeville, GA 30354 (map)

Daniel: This is actually the first Chick-fil-A ever! Open 24 hours, it has an entranceway fit for dwarves (it's only about three feet tall). They have the greatest chicken sandwiches, waffle fries and chicken nuggets you will ever find--not to mention glorious sweet tea! And believe it or not, this specific location also serves hamburgers, waffles and many other items that are usually not on the Chick-fil-A menu.

  2. 2 4 Star Rating: Recommended El Myr

1091 Euclid Ave, Atlanta, GA 30307 (map)

Jake: You want a freaking badical burrito and awesome jukebox? Then find your way to El Myr in Atlanta. It's located in the coolest area of downtown Atlanta, Little Five Points. El Myr is like a dive bar that serves great food. The barbecue chicken burrito or taco is one of the best things I have ever put in my mouth.

  3. 3 4 Star Rating: Recommended Mellow Mushroom

1679 Lavista Rd NE, Atlanta, GA 30329 (map)

Daniel: This small pizza chain is, thankfully, spreading around the Southeast. I would have to say this is my favorite pizza in the world. Just plain-old pepperoni and cheese. They pile the cheese on so thick that after two slices, I'm finished. And their crust is one of the best parts. If you come when there is a good batch, they serve some of the best sweet tea in the South.

  4. 4 4 Star Rating: Recommended Daddy D'Z

264 Memorial Dr SE, Atlanta, GA 30312 (map)

Daniel: The definition of dirty Southern barbeque at its finest. Sweet and savory pulled pork--the stuff dreams are made of. Then you choose from any of the most-Southern-style sides you have ever seen. I would suggest the mac and cheese, corn bread, potato wedges and baked beans--and again, there is always the huge Styrofoam cup of sweet tea with free refills.

On the Road

  1. 5 Cracker Barrel Old Country Str

6699 S Semoran Blvd, Orlando, FL 32822 (map)

Daniel: Bottomless sweet tea and free biscuits. What more can i say? And top it all off with a nice, relaxing time rocking on the front-porch rocking chairs. A small taste of southern hospitality--all over the country, although the farthest west they go is Arizona. Bummer.

  2. 6 4 Star Rating: Recommended Lorenzo & Son Pizza Inc

305 South St, Philadelphia, PA 19147 (map)

Daniel: One of the best slices of cheese pizza in the world. And it's cheap, too--only $2 for a huge slice they have to fold in half to fit on the plate. You can't really eat inside and the line is usually wrapped around and out the door, but it's totally worth it. Also, don't ask for toppings if you are getting a slice. They are pretty anal about their rules, but, again, it's totally worth it. It's all part of the experience of being in South Philly.

  3. 7 5 Star Rating: Highly Recommended Illegal Pete's

    1530 16th St, Denver, CO 80202 (map)

Daniel: Every time that we pass through Denver, I do my best to make it to Illegal Pete's. They have some of the best burritos in the country, and for sure the nicest workers I have ever seen. It is located right downtown, close to all sorts of shops and happenings. There is also a free tram that you can take from one end of downtown to the other.

  4. 8 4 Star Rating: Recommended Red Mill Burgers

    312 N 67th St, Seattle, WA 98103 (map)

Daniel: I was turned onto this little gem while we were recording our second record, "O God, the Aftermath." I think we ate there, like, twice a week during the two months that we were in Seattle. May I suggest the BBQ burger with cheese and fries? And when you order, look back at the grill. You will most likely see a glorious pile of bacon that is about a foot high! The first time I ate there, for fun I asked how much bacon I could get for a dollar. They gave me my own little pile of bacon (like five pieces). It ruled.
