Echo

Los Angeles, CA

Although it may have a hipster reputation, it IS actually one of LA's cooler, slightly smaller music venues. A great place to discover up-and-coming bands that you might see at Coachella in a few years.

Sad that in such a neat and interesting neighborhood, a place opens and serves really terrible food. I am not even a tough critic but the food was just really really bad. Bummer.

Guisado's. Guisado's is a family run taco shack in Echo Park. This is as "dressed up" as tacos should ever get. The handmade masa tortillas are thick and more flavorful than anywhere else - they are more than just a vessel for meat. The chicharron, the steak picado, and the cheese tacos are all fantastic. The sampler is the way to go for a good cross-section of the tacos, and you can mix and match. Oh, and if you're craving something spicy, the chiles torreados taco ought to take care of that craving for good. Good thing they serve horchata to help you put out that fire. … read more
