I will not go back – I ate at Joe's on Sunday, 1-23-11, at 3:30. Monday at 10:30 in the morning I started getting sick. That night I had to go to the ER and was put in the hospital and not released until Wednesday. I would have just thought I had a virus if not confirmed that it was from the last thing I ate. That was at Joes..chopped beef sandwich. How many others did the same thing and thought they just had a virus. But that's ok, because Joe took it upon himself to call the health inspector and of course they couldn't find anything out of place. So, it is what it is. I know my family won't eat there again.
Biggest Potato EVER! – Last Sunday I went to Joe's BBQ after church with my family and a few friends. Most of them got the all-you-can-eat beef ribs, but I decided to keep it light and just get a Barbecue baked potato. It cost just under eight dollars, and when they put the potato on the counter, I almost fainted. It was GIGANTIC! I asked the meat cutter if he could weigh it just for fun, and after the toppings were on the potato, it weighed just under three and a half pounds. The potatoes are much bigger than any that I have seen in the greater houston area, but this one was enormous. The girl at the register told me that if you tell them you want a big potato, they'll find you the biggest one they have ready. I highly recommend this restaurant! Best BBQ in town.
Great Food, but long lines – I love going here, but you have to wait in line to order your food and then once again you have to wait in another line to pay for your meal when you leave. I wish I could just sit down and order or pay for it after I order or something so that I don't have to stand in line twice just to eat this great BBQ.
They just lost a customer – I have been going to Joe's since I was a child. It's always been one of my favorite places to eat, and the people have always been friendly. But today, just days after hurricane Ike destroyed the coast, I decided to call and ask how late they were going to be opened. Considering the circumstances, I thought it was a legitimate question, and a reasonable one at that. I work at a bank, and we had that question all day today. Well, the lady who answered the phone HUNG UP on me! I don't care HOW many people have called in to ask that question, under the circumstances hanging up on me is uncalled for! Needless to say, they have just lost a customer who, at least for the past 20 years, has contributed a lot to their company. All it takes is one time. No one deserves to be treated like that, especially in this time of disaster.
From childhood to adulthood, still the best BBQ! – I grew up in Alvin and remember Joe's amazing BBQ as a staple of my childhood. The food Joe's serves up is pretty amazing. Portions are still HUGE, though prices have gone up a little over the years. Don't get me wrong, it's still a pretty solid deal for the quality, taste, and size, and given inflation, the price raise is to be expected.
For years my only regret was that there were no breakfast options. BUT! A friend of the family, recently hired by Mr. Saladino, piloted a new breakfast buffet featuring all the breakfast staples: eggs, meats, potatoes, and breads, but also including made to order omelets and waffles that can you can highly customize. My favourite is a spinach, bacon, and sauteed peppers omelet with a little cheese. For about $6-8/person (price including a drink), you get a MUCH better, made to order, absolutely delicious breakfast than a similarly priced meal at an IHOP or Denny's.
Back to the regular BBQ, though. A family favourite of ours (as well as a LOT of other regulars Joe's lovers) has always been the BBQ baked potatoes. The size of the potato alone is comparable to a Nerf football...then they add a heap of shredded beef, and all the regular potato fixins for a giant mountain of food. Leftovers make a great, hearty breakfast the next day. I'm also VERY fond of the two meat meal, and regularly get the shredded beef and sausage. Their potato salad and beans are the best around, and make excellent accompaniments to their meals.
Joe's is also a regular choice for catering in the Alvin area, and I've never had a meal they catered that was bad. Sometimes it's not as good as when you get it from the restaurant (re: not pipin' hot, a little under-sauced), but it's always VERY edible, and several groups I'm a part of use them on a regular basis.
To wrap it up, Joe's sets the bar high for all its competitors, and I highly doubt anyone will ever surpass their excellence in the BBQ field. If you're in the area, stop on by--you won't regret it!
Quality of meat is deteriorating – I have been going back to this place for years now (about 3times a year) and even bring friends and family even if it's out of my way. But yesterday, May 18,2008, was a downer. The beef ribs were dry, tough and almost burned. I asked the waitress to bring another serving after making my complaints known...but the same is true with the 2nd serving. It's a disappointment, even the sauce is a bit more salty compared to the last time we visited (about 6months ago). I hate to say this, but I will not be back to this place and bring friends and relatives. Have to find a another one.
Service is okay...but when you drive more than 20 miles to eat...you expect good mouth watering barbecue.
Over the years we have watched Joe's Barbeque Co grow with Alvin. The Barbeque is excellent....flavored through and through. The homemade goodies at the check out stand are to die for. The fudge is the best. AND the food is reasonably priced. We won't buy Barbeque anywhere else. You go JOE!
Getcha some – Great place to eat!!!! From all you can eat ribs, to Bar-B-Que baked potatoes (my favorite) this is the place to get Bar-B-Que!!! You can never go wrong with Joe's. Take the drive it'e worth it!!!
The Best! – Joes' Barbeque is the BEST! It's the place to take visitors for great BBQ. The all you can eat beef ribs is a super deal. The portions are huge. I ususally to order the stuff baked potato and take it home for the next day's lunch. Well worth the drive. We made the drive when we lived in Houston and like the drive much better now from Pearland.
Well worth the wait. – Joe's Barbeque in Alvin is well worth the wait and drive. If you are a rib lover and can never get a good beef rib. Joe's is the place for you all you can eat ribs on Sunday night. Plus the large bbq baked potato stuffed with the works for just a few bucks. That does not fit your needs try the chopped pork sausage sandwich. Need a good warm cobbler with ice cream to finish off the meal they have it. What ever style of bbq you have had in the past I am sure they will make your mouth water for more.
