Delicious cupcakes, great location, could have better service – This shop is constantly fresh and has a lot of varieties that have always been universally appealing- try the Key Lime pie, or the Carrot Cake! The iced teas, cookies and other selections have always been excellent, and the price isn't outrageous. It would due to not hire a bunch of pretentious hipsters, though, as I have had the experience of having to wait while one of them finishes a personal chat with a friend before waiting on me. However, i have met the owner and she is friendly, warm and down to earth.
Creative sweets – The style of the cafe is very small and cute. The cupcake flavors are very creative and different I have to say my personal favorite is the strawberry shortcake cupcake but it is only served on friday and saturday. The coffee is really good too. I have to agree but service is just ok because when there is a lot of people they can't handle it and service gets backed up. They also have fun custom cookie designing its super fun to do with your significant other, friends, or children.
WORST SERVICE! POOR DELIVERY! HORRIBLE QUALITY!!! – I ordered some cakes from this bakery and was very disappointed! They looked NOTHING like what I ordered - when I made mention of my disappointment I got a big dose of attitude!!! Their prices were unreasonably high so I expected top notch quality. Five minutes after leaving I called back to say I wanted to return them and get my money back. I was told to bring them back - upon my arrival they refused to give me the cash. It took me calling the cops to have any resolution. I would never go back to this place. The products they make look NOTHING like the gallery of photos on their website. The service is shotty and they obviously don?t keep their word. It was a HORRIBLE experience!!!
Best Peanutbutter Cookie – THE most unusual and imaginative peanutbutter cookie I've ever had - NEVER had one as good! If all their cookies are this unusual - I'll be back for parties, holidays and "treat day"! Also, I think the pie contest is a brilliant idea.
ITS ABOUT TIME!!! Best Bakery Best People Place – FINALLY!!!!! The place that I have been waiting for in Houston!!!!!
Home made cupcakes and desserts - a neighborhood spot
like in NYC and Seattle!!!! The chocolate mousse cupcake
is amazing - to die for and they even had Bouchons!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Beautiful cupcakes the best in Houston - no kidding.
Retro desserts with contemporary flair – I'm happy to report that The Cookie Jar has recently undergone a facelift so that the store is now as attractive as their desserts. The children's play area is now in a separate little room which reduces the noise considerably, and they have added a lot more room to display desserts. It feels like you're in London or New York, with a big window in front and a nice, bright space. Thankfully, there is not a touch of pink anywhere. There is a whole section of homemade pies which are as beautiful as the cupcakes, ranging from traditional southern pies like green tomato and pecan to more unusual creations such as a gorgeous chocolate hazelnut tart. What I love about this bakery is that everything tastes as good as it looks, which is something I cannot say for many spots in town, and they seem to have great quality control. Everything tastes fresh and moist, and the ingredients taste first rate. I have eaten at the Bistro next door twice, and the soups and pizzas are amazing. Best of all, they'll bring any dessert you select to your table. I am so happy we have a spot like this in Houston.
Best desserts in town – I recently tried the Cookie Jar for the first time, and I was knocked out. They have a huge assortment of high-quality desserts, ranging from the standard to the really creative. When I visited, they had a coca cola cupcake and a mexican hot chocolate cupcake that both looked really interesting, and tons of amazing-looking pies. I ate a red velvet cupcake that had a nice creamy frosting, and a piece of peanut butter pie that put Reese's to shame. I have sent several friends here, and received only rave reviews back. I definitely intend to become a regular here.
Tres leches is best in town – I think I have found the best tres leches in Houston. It's not the traditional slab of cake. Instead, it's in the shape of a cupcake. But despite its appearance, it's really just a great little tres leches cake. And the price is right compared to what you'd spend down the street. The cupcakes all look amazing, and I keep meaning to try other flavors, but then I end up ordering my fav. It's always super busy when I've been here, but so far they haven't disappointed. Also try the Mexican wedding cookies, which I'm hooked on, and their molasses cookies.
Despite the name, very ambitious little bakery – Cupcakes were a novelty 10 years ago, but I'm so over them now. What's to love about a small frosted chunk of cake? So, I've avoided the Cookie Jar despite all the buzz I've heard over the last few months because cupcakes don't interest me. Last Friday, my girlfriends dragged me here for dessert after lunch, and I was surprised that cupcakes are only a small part of the menu here. They have the standard chocolate chip cookies, etc., but there were also a lot of really unusual cookies here. I picked up three different kinds of sandwich cookie, and the biggest gingerbread cookie (shaped like a star instead of that annoying little man) ever. In the cupcake refrigerator, I ignored the 2 shelves of cupcakes and focused on all the other pastries. I took home a mini caramel cheesecake in the shape of a little dome that was fantastic, and a chocolate cake that was more like a brownie -- all moist and fudgy the way I like it. Without exception, everything was extremely fresh and very good quality. The brownie cake was made of Valhrona chocolate, which I have never seen in another bakery in Houston, and across the board, the desserts I tried could have been featured in a top Houston restaurant. I can't give Cookie Jar my highest rating because they have all those cupcakes wasting space in their display, but I have to admit I was wrong to stay away for so long.
Great after-school destination – My daughter is a 7th grader across the street, and this has become our special after-school treat. She does her homework (with a little bribery form the cupcake case) while I get caught up on emails and enjoy a snack myself. It's bright and cheerful in here, and a pleasant place to work. It can get a bit loud when everyone arrives after school, but my daughter loves the scene, and she swears it doesn't interfere w/ her work. So now I skip carpool lane, and our routine is to meet here in the afternoons. I can personally recommend the gingerbread and molasses cookies, and my daughter is hooked on the cupcakes, especially the red velvet. This is a nice addition to Houston's snack and sweets scene.
