Poor Service, Poor Food - Will Not Return – After hearing how good the food was, we decided to try Benno's. We were massively disappointed. After ordering at the front counter we sat down and waited for our food. Everyone else in our party was served within about 10 minutes of ordering. But my husband, 14 month-old daughter and I were left waiting. After about 15 minutes, a waitress came up and said that they had forgotten to get my husband?s signature on the credit card receipt. After collecting his signature, there was no mention of when the food would be there. After about 20 minutes of waiting, my husband went up to the counter to check on our order. He was told, "We're just putting it in now." After 10 more minutes, we checked again and the order was finally on its way to our table.
So needless-to-say, after finally receiving our food 30 minutes after we had ordered it, our whole party was finished eating and was left to wait on us. Further, my daughter was so hungry waiting on her chicken fingers she ended up eating from her cousin?s plate, and was no longer hungry for her own food when it finally arrived.
Not only was the Benno's counter staff rude, they never once apologized for the delay, nor did they offer any way to make it better (discounts, refund, etc.). Further, to add insult to injury, the waitress came to the table after we had received our meals and asked snidely, ?Is everything okay after the ?little? food delay?" The food wasn?t worth the wait or the price paid for it. My family and I will not be returning to Benno's.
This was some BAD "cajun" type food- will NOT return – Ok, I'l make this quick. We are from south of New Orleans, we know seafood. We should have known better than to go anywhere claiming 'cajun' food. But I wanted some seafood and we had already eaten at Landrys, which was great.
I ordered the shrimp/oyster combo and my husband got the shrimp/fish combo. We each had a bowl of gumbo. First off the gumbo wasnt horrible but we'd had better. It had shrimp, chicken, sausage and okra in it. The shrimp were edible. The oysters were hard, crusty, dried out, chewy and tasteless except for the taste of tarter sauce. Not to mention they were the size of a dang quarter. Now the fish was the worst of all. In all honesty, I swear it tasted like a hard dry greasy piece of fish stick you'd get in a school cafeteria. Sitting on the plate, it was the color of cardboard and about the same consistancy. My husband and I exchanged worried looks when he cut a piece to try. You could BARELY even SEE the fish inside the 1/4 inch piece of schrapnel. It was just plain AWEFUL AWFUL AWFUL. I'm sorry there was no excuse for that lack of quality in fish considering we were within spitting distance of the GULF!!! After I tried it, I said outloud "I guess they trust the Gorton's Fisherman" and shop iin the frozen foods aisle.
The people behind us barely touched their fettucine or boiled seafood. Of course, we dont know where they were from or their expectations, but it was apparent, they too were not happy with their meal.
It saddens yet cracks us up when people consider food like this, well,,good seafood, let alone anything remotely like 'cajun' type food. Cajun doesnt mean hot sauce and pepper. Cajun means flavor and seasoning. And oh my goodness, this was just plain horrible food. The only meal we had that was worse came from China Island chinese food.
We went at 11:30 and it wasnt busy. I can only think the food quality must be why. In this case, the good reviews were wrong and the bad one I read was SO RIGHT!
Pack the Mylanta.
Great food but long line. – Food was good but line gets real long a lunch.
Excellent View! – Food was great, and the view was excellent. Food portions are good for value.
