My Favorite Motel Bargain On The Beach. Let me start by saying that I've been going here for years and I love it. I think they have the best prices in town & certainly the best for what you get. I have always found the staff to be attentive and pleasant. My favorite happens to be the "surfer dude" ( I don't think this site let's me name names) He even teaches lessons if you or your teens are up for it. I've had other employees carry luggage upstairs w/o me even asking.

I've found my rooms sometimes a bit outdated/maybe a bit shabby, but ALWAYS clean. I was told this year they have some new furnishings & updates, so will be excited to see next week when I leave for a 10 day stay. SOme rooms have mini fridges & microwaves which are great for breakfast/lunch items. The pool area has grills so you can cook out - thereby saving even more $. I have never personally had a problem with my AC not working - in fact @ nite, it's cold enough we usually bring an extra blanket.

I love the rooftop deck, beautiful for sunrise/sunset viewing & meeting other travelers. You can watch your older kids in the pool from here - younger ones you have to stay w/ in the area. Nice picnic tables & chairs.

My advice - bring some mosquito repellant, you're on an island - they're going to get you otherwise. Go to walmart - grab basic breakfast/lunch stuff, maybe charcoal & cookout items, xtra beach towels, the OFF spray, and more sunscreen than you think you need. Your walk to Stewart Beach is a short one from the motel. Basically, all you are going to do here is sleep .

If it rains, try the great museums, old homes on Broadway, Island Bowl the theater, the strand - Colonel Bubbies & La Kings Confectionary, Star Drugstores Soda Fountain, Moody Gardens - all recommended to me by various staff members at the front desk of the Sandpiper. They also have restaurant recommendations - places locals choose over tourist traps.

I don't have enough wonderful things to say about The Sandpiper. Negative reviews elsewhere are plain wrong.
