Great sea food! – 9/11 return visit to "the trailer". Business was purchased by employee who had done a good job of remodeling! The food was excellent and the prices were spot on. I must admit I was happy I did not run into fuzzy legs. I am from Minnesota and have been to the Sardine Can many times, and will return when I visit CA. again. The Cioppino is excellent!
Average seafood at high prices – Upon arrival, I was glad I did not shave my legs for this dining experience. The Sardine Can is nothing more than a trailer house by the Vallejo harbor. But, I am no snob, this was fine with me. I was looking forward to some good seafood in a casual atmosphere.
We both had the clam chowder to start, which was pretty good. However, I did not finish my cup and the waitress asked me if I didn't like it, which is a pet peeve of mine. Just because I am not stuffing every last morsel of food into my mouth doesn't mean I don't like it.
For dinner, I had the shrimp scampi and my husband had the fish and chips. Both dishes were average and the service was friendly, but I am a bit confused about the pricing. The average price of a seafood entree here is about $15. This is not what I would expect to pay for an mediocre meal in Vallejo, especially sitting in a trailer where my condiments are displayed in an empty Budweiser six pack container and the table cloth is vinyl. I would have been pleased with the Sardine Can if the meal was about half the price.
