Eh. Not that great. – The enchiladas at this place is a joke. Tasted like hormel chili dumped on corn tortillas with cheese on top. The refried beans were dried out. I should have known better than to get enchiladas at a non-mexican restaurant.
The only thing good at this place was the salad bar.
One of my faves! – I live in San Antonio and have not found a better burger in San Antonio than I ate at Sammy's. It was simple, but flavorful, juicy, and delicious. Exactly what you'd expect from a cheeseburger. I've also had the enchiladas there and they were good too. I'm from a small town similary to Castroville and this restaurant makes me feel at home. It's very simple so don't expect a 4 star experience. Just simple comfort food.
Adding a room at a time, the restaurant, which features a full bar, serves American dishes with a touch of Tex-Mex. – In Short
Erected in 1948 as an icehouse, the building evolved into a drive-in burger joint in 1950 and provided curb service until '69. Spacious, wood-paneled dining areas, with low-key decor, are comfortable. There's a varied menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Soups are fresh. Charbroiled hamburgers are big and juicy. Featured dishes include chicken fried steak, catfish and enchiladas. Freshly baked breads, light pastries and desserts are provided by the family-operated bakery across the street.
