Acceptable but not the best – Visiting San Antonio for a month, I went to over half-a-dozen sushi restaurants. Koi Kawa was above average, but otherwise not memorable. The view was nice, and the atmosphere serene. My waitress was very pleasant and definitely knew her menu well. The sushi selection, however, was a bit puny. Also not the freshest fish I ever had, but definitely NOT bad. That sums it up...not bad.

Very good for my first sushi experience in SA – I had never been to a sushi restaurant in SA before so my boyfriend wanted to take me. Being from LA, there are many sushi places here so I won't say I was skeptical, but I wasn't expecting it to be as good as the sushi restaurants here. We picked Koi Kawa based on Citysearch reviews, and I wasn't disappointed. It is in a great location overlooking the park and they had a wide variety of sushi and rolls to pick from. My boyfriend is not a sushi eater and he was able to find some cooked rolls that he liked as well.

SUPER SUSHI – My favorite place, specially the UNI, that is always FRESH!!! or they out of it. Goes fast.

Also try the fried crab........AWSOME.

The clams cooked with sake are the best . Everything is great.

Not your typical sushi – Although the food is fresh. The fish is fresh but costly. I really was not impressed with the ambience, slow service, nor the presentation. I had to ask for stronger tea and it still was mediocore, cool, and bitter.

Walk along the wooden planking until you smell the miso and tempura. – The Scene
Nestled at the back of the Boardwalk on Broadway just north of the Witte Museum, it can be hard to find, but follow your nose and you'll be rewarded. Sushi aficionados claim Koi Kawa has the best chef in town. Past the sushi bar, unpretentious seating in an all-glass dining room offers an unobstructed vista of Brackenridge Park and San Antonio River.

The Food
With almost 30 appetizers, it's hard not to start the meal off right. Begin on the light side with the salted, buttery edamame (steamed soybeans in the pod). If you've come for the sushi, try the devil roll, a mixture of fish, green onion and chili paste, surrounded by wasabi-flavored flying fish eggs. A wealth of popular soba, udon and teriyaki dishes round out the large menu.

nihonjin – there was a large group of japanese business men that had entered while we were eating and the sushi chef informed us that they had come in 3 times in the past week while they were in town visiting. They ordered so much food and loved it. if that's not an endorsement, nothing is.

Great food, Great staff – Having just moved to San Antonio from Houston, I thought I would never find a great Jap restaurant. Having tried just about every Jap restaurants here in San Antonio, I would have to say Koi Kawas is one of the best! The "special rolls" are amazing, the wait staff is nice and helpful, and service is prompt!

Yum! Yum! – Great place to eat raw fish! It is always fresh and not fishy smelling, and if you don't like it, they will take it away. Also, a good place to go with friends or your significant other. It is quaint, homey, and you never know who will see there.
