This innovative restaurant relies on family recipes that go beyond standard Tex-Mex fare. – In Short
Upon being seated in the bright, airy building, diners are quickly furnished with warm chips, fresh salsa and Argentinean chimy-churri (a sauce made from parsley, garlic and oil). The nachos and the classic enchilada assortment is a good start. The best enchiladas are the poblanas and the Mexicana, with sauces that are rich and savory. Enjoy live music while you eat on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights.
Los Barrios the best of all SA's Barrios – Los Barrios has the best mexican food in SA! I love the Tacos a la Diana plate. The service is always polite and the owners always add the personal touch by coming to your table! Very personable! Feels like family. La Hacienda de Los Barrios is so San Antonioish-excellent! Tortillas are always super yummy! When I visit SA, this is my fav! Too bad Austin doesn't have mexican food this good!I recommend Los Barrios to all who visit SA!
Always the best – I started coming to Los Barrios in the mid-80's when all they had was that one room, basically. I moved away from SA for a number of years and when I came back I headed straight to Los Barrios. It was huge and pink! I was so upset! Until I ate the enchiladas! The food is still the same! It's the best overall Tex-Mex in SA in my book! I bring everyone who visits there! In fact, I'm taking 2 out-of-towners tonight!
Not my style – I am probably one of the few people in San Antonio who did not like Los Barrios. The service was pathetic, the food was without flavor and with more grease than any other Mexican restaurant I have eaten. The margaritas were below average. I would recommend several other restaurants besides Los Barrios.
It's a coin toss – Depends on the day or the phase of the moon whether the service will be good or in need of repair. The family owned and supervised place is a standard for San Antonio. Quality is consistant and deserves a thumbs up. Parking is the pits however. The neighborhood is not as bad as your vibes tell you
Second Time Around Not Good – Service was slow. Overcrowded. Waitress kept forgetting about us. Food was average. Really surprised because first visit was excellent. Maybe we went on a bad day. It was after church and very busy.
Best in town! – Go to Los Barrios. It's the best in SA. The owners seem to live there and have always come to my table to see how my family's food is that night.
Enchiladas poblanas are my fave food in the world. The cheese enchiladas have a drug like hold on my wife. My kids could live on their rice, beans and tortillas.
Is it sometimes tacky? Yep. Sometimes too spicy for wimpy Austinites and other out of towners? Darn straight. But that's because this is a real SA place loved by locals.
not good this time – We ate there Sunday and only 1 person finished their meal. The guacamole was really warm, the borraho beans(sp) were off, my guisada was so so and our waitress was not very nice. The 1 son got 2 cheese enchilades ala carte and loved them. Maybe we got the last end of something but the last 2 times we went were iffy. Had a delicious meal in June..so did my brother who was visiting...lp
Authentic – Best Mexican food next to Mom's, owners are very friendly and make you feel at home.
Mucho Good – This resturant sticks out because of its flavorful dishes and exceptional menu. The family has kept using the old family recipies not just basic texmex food.
