good tasting food w/ DREADFUL service – i have been a fan of gins chinese food since i could remember! my whole family goes there & while the food is great the customer service by the wait staff blows big time ! ever since i can remember the wait staff has been dreadful, dont get me wrong there are A SELECT FEW that have GREAT ATTITUDES, there are two SPECIFIC WAITRESS THAT JUST SUCK ALL TOGETHER LISA & SUSAN!! and have ever since i remember !! LISA- refuse's tables & will ask you to sit some where else other than her section! unless u are a group of single men she will tend to you PROMPLY , but with that PROMP SERVICE EXPECT : lots of FLIRTING & TALKING! and if your a group of women or family expect TONS OF ATTITUDE & LOTS OF UGLY STARES!! SUSAN: for the most part is just slow @ taking your orders or just skips you & the rest of your table all together! so if your a hungry family trying to get promp servive dont sit in these ladies sections my advice ask for LEO or IDEZ!! even chaung or sin ja are GREAT or the little quiet girl with glasses is awesome as well !! AND WORD TO THE WISE TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE LUNCH SPECIALS BECAUSE THE DINNERS FOR A FAMILY OFTEN COME WITH A PRETTY STEEP TICKET @ THE END WITH NOT THAT MUCH FOOD TO SHOW !! so gin lets lower the dinner prices a bit , not everyone can afford them in these economic times!! so please keep cooking your great tasting food but with afforable prices !! OH & PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT YOUR EMPLOYEES ATTITUDES & HOW THEY TREAT YOUR CUSTOMERS, BECAUSE AFTER ALL YOUR CUSTOMERS ARE YOUR BREAD & BUTTER TO YOUR FAMILYS INCOME !! SO WHO DO YOU PICK THE AWFUL DREADFUL WAITSTAFF YOU HAVE OR THE PEOPLE THAT GIVE YOU YOUR BUSINESS TO KEEP YOUR RESTURANT & FAMILY GOING !!
To find good family-run joints, sometimes you have to mine the strip malls. – Where to Find It
Gins is a prime example of this rule in action. Nestled in an unassuming strip on the Northwest side, Gins serves up Chinese specialties that would be more at home in San Francisco's Chinatown than alongside Loop 410. Gins offers the usual suspects under the watchful gaze of gold dragon decorations. But diners who get a little off the beaten track and order the house specialties will be well rewarded.
What to Eat
Try the tender Asian eggplant quick-cooked with shredded pork and served in a spicy, thick garlic sauce. This basic formula also works well for the green beans with chicken, which features crisp and tender haricots verts with an added kick of chile heat. Nothing particularly complicated, mind you, but the flavors are intense and--if you've had one too many tepid Buddha's Delights from your neighborhood take-away--downright memorable.
