Bad Cut – I was scheduled for a cut & style. When I walked in I was told the stylist I had scheduled had car trouble & they offered Blake as a substitute. I don't understand why they didn't call me at work to let me know before I came in. Since I was there I made the mistake of taking the substitute. He did not listen to my explanation of the cut/style I wanted. I specifically told him the last salon had thinnned my hair too much with a razor and I did not like the look. He ended up thinning my hair too much. I also told him I wanted short bangs, which he softly refused to do since they would "still pull back even if I cut them shorter". He was more engaged in what was going on with his co-workers than listening to his customer.. I called back 3 days later since I really hated my cut especially my long bangs hitting me in the eyes. Well they cut them shorter, but the repair stylist expained that she couldn't fix the sides since it had been thinned out so much, my hair would not do what I wanted. I don't believe I'll go back, but if I do, I will NOT schedule with Blake.
New Talent at Hugo's – In response to gonzalezc22, I was sorry to read online about your experience with one our service providers. You may not know this but I encourage all Hugo?s client to call me personally at 210/860-6799 regarding any experience in which we did not live up to their expectations. Or via email at beautyfool@yahoo. Since day one, at Hugo?s our guarantee to every client has been that you will only pay for services which you are completely satisfied with. For this reason I pride myself in growing and nurturing a team of extraordinary people. Josh was our color educator and was in charge of training new team members. You may not know this but the young lady who cut and colored your hair had actually graduated from Josh?s apprenticeship program. Like our services, we also guarantee the Aveda products we sell.
I can only say like you, we too were dismayed when your stylist Josh left Hugo?s suddenly and abruptly. He had been with Hugo?s for many years and quite frankly I was just as surprised that he would leave so unprofessionally. He and the other members of our staff that decided to go with him did not even mention a word as to where they would be going. In fact we found out by another one of Josh?s clients that he had quit before he himself had told us. We too thank reviewer lisel2 on 8/30/07 for informing us of where Josh?s new salon can be found.
After investigating your experience, I believe that we did in fact refund all your money including gratuity. If this is not the case, please contact me so that we may live up to our guarantee.
Happily, this event has given us the opportunity to build a new a team at Hugo?s. I am confident that this will be the strongest and clearly focused team set on creating the ultimate Aveda experience.

I know where the talent went!!! – I am responding to the women who use to go to Josh. I feel every person or client has the right to know where their service provider has gone. THINGS HAVE CHANGED – I had been going to my stylist Josh at Hugo's for almost three years now (they even did my hair for my wedding) I had always been extremely happy with the service and every cut and color I have received. But much to my dismay when I called last week to make an appt I was told that Josh was no longer there and they had no idea where he went, they convinced me to go to a girl who all of Josh's clients were supposedly now going to. I arrived with pictures of both the cut and color I wanted and while the cut is great, the color is not even close to what I asked for. Instead of the red and auburn color I requested I got BLONDE...yes blonde... platinum blonde highlights. I pointed this out to her and showed her the pictures again to reiterate that I was looking for was a red/brown color. She said ok and proceeded to put yet another color on me which is still blonde but with a slight red hint to it. The color might be considered ok to some but I paid $160 for color that it is not what I asked for and my scalp is sore from all the chemicals. She is a very nice girl who can cut well.. but her experience in color is lacking. Apparently a whole group pf stylists left at the same time and took all the expertise this salon once had with them...PS of anyone knows were Josh went PLEASE email me and let me know where!!!
an amazing experience – I have a newborn and 4 other children. My life was going crazy and my hair was driving me nuts. I was at a very stressful and emotional point and I decided to cut and color my own hair. It was really horrible. I called two other Aveda salons before I called Hugos and I was treated like I was "not good enough". I had almost given up when i called Hugos and the receptionist was so friendly and understanding. She put me on hold and spoke with a stylist. That stylist came to the phone and did everything she could to work me in that day. When I came in I explained my situation and the stylist was so nice. She told me that we were gonna make it amazing. She gave me the most amazing scalp massage and I felt so much weight off my shoulders. Our conversation was wonderful and the cut and color........ absolutely beautiful!!!!!! Definately the best haircut and color I've ever had. I would highly recommend this salon to anyone.
Don't waste your time or money – I went and got a hair cut and color. The color was just ok, the cut was terrible. It was very crooked. I made an apoointment to go and back and have it fixed. I called that morning to make sure that we were still get up for 12:00. They said yes. When I got there they said "sorry you should have been here at 11:00". I told them they were NOT going to fix my hair, they were going to refund my money & they did. I will not go back.
Perfect Experience – After talking to my stylist, I got the exact hair color and cut that I wanted. He took the time to find out exactly what I wanted and made quite helpful suggestions. My first reaction to my hair was, "This is perfect; it is exactly what I wanted." Everyone was very friendly. Their tea is delightful. Thanks for a "beautiful" experience.
Lost a first time customer – I went for a light brown hair color and straight hair. Instead I got BLACK roots and a 60's "Bubble" hairdo. They have TERRIBLE lighting and I didn't see the black till I got home. I was horrified! I called the stylist and asked for help to correct the situation. He said he'd call me back, but didn't. I called again and another stylist answered with a rude runaround. I left another message but was ignored. Any other business with integrity would gladly want to help the customer. Apparently they don't care at Hugo's. Going back? Not in a million years. I went to another Aveda Salon and they were shocked at what a mess Hugo's made of my hair. I was in tears when I went to them. They worked on my hair through several processes and I left smiling! They CARED!
Alright, but not the best in SA – I went for a massage and mani/pedi. I'd never been to an Aveda spa before, and find the smells of the herb-laced things overwhelming. It is crowded and noisy. The massage therapist was okay, but the pedicurist was rude and commented on how ugly my feet are (I'm a runner). The manicure was the best part as was the hibiscus tea they serve when you arrive. Staff was condescending and not pleasant and ignored me twice when trying to pay out (for other, I suppose, regular customers). I won't go back.
Worst Aveda Salon I've been to – Hugo's website boasts their attention to the real people, not just those with money. I was happy when I read that because I love Aveda products but every Aveda salon I've been to has been staffed by snobby people who think you should have to prove you're worthy to be in their salon. Well once I arrived I realized it was too good to be true. Everything was the same as any other Aveda salon, but worse. The layout of the salon was very cramped and my stylist had to face my chair away from the mirror just so people could walk by. The stylist was also a bad experience in itself. She decided to tell me how she was stalking her ex-boyfriend and told me way more than I wanted to know about her personal life. The haircut was also one of the worsts that I've received.
