I am surprised at all of the self-serving selfishness amongst some in the Christian community today, and how easily they will bash a very well established and flourishing ministry. Do you expect every single person that comes to this church to be a perfect saint or something? Are they obligated to help every single person out who comes knocking on their door asking for money? Or should they use discernment? Interesting to see the negative reviews here. Instead of worrying about "oh my, is anyone going to come up to me and say hello", why don't YOU take the initiative and go up to folks and start saying hello, and meet new people? Ever think that maybe they are thinking the exact same thing of you? We reached out to Oak Hills asking for direction to a small group, and within a day had 4 different people contact us, one elderly couple came to our home, prayed with us and fellowshipped, that week we attended a home group which was very nice, then started to get to know people more after attending the Sunday morning services and Bible studies. You have to put forth some effort and desire to serve, you can't expect everyone to have that mentality. The majority of the people we've met here are friendly and very grace-oriented. It's not perfect by any means. But they do a lot for the community. Just look at David Robinson who has attended this church for years! The church has a lot of mission plants in the world and numerous people have come to Christ. Their children's ministries are top-notch. If you really have concerns about the church you should try calling during the week and actually speaking to a pastor, instead of bashing the church on an online forum. They are not going to hang up on you. We've only been going two months and have already gotten plugged in to various ministries, but it's because we took the initiative instead of just sitting there feeling sorry for ourselves. We are the Church, people, Christ called all of us to serve, not to be served. Having the correct mentality will make all of the difference in the world.

We drive more than 30 miles (one way) every Sunday to attend this church. Why? Because it's the best church we can find in the SA area. Yes, it's very big. Yes, you can probably drift in and out without being noticed. But if you hang around awhile, join a class, involve yourself in ministry or growth, you'll find the church is full of sincere Christians.

My husband and I enjoy the Biblical, Christ-centered sermons. We love our Sunday School class. There is an openness and interest in study that reminds us of a college campus.

By the way, if the Crown Ridge campus (out on 10) is too far, there are other campuses around the city that are smaller and still share the same Christ-centered culture. Check the church's web site to see where they are located.

Church Reviews – There are a few good churches out there. I'd like to comment on two that I believe in. First is Calvary Chapel off Pat Booker Rd. and the second is the Hard Rock Church near Ingram Mall. If going to a church that doesn't water down their gospel appeals to you, then you'll drive 20 miles to attend. calvarysa dotcom / hardrockchurch dotcom

Very Dispoint – I have been this church for 2 and half years. I feel no one care us and some people are very rude.

The "church" is me – Oak Hills (I go to the Crownridge campus) is a big church. When I first went there about 6 years ago, I was a very "young" Christian. I went with a pretty typical attitude: "What can this church do for me? How will it meet my needs?"

At the time, I was praying a lot for God to teach me what He wanted me to know, and to show me what He wanted me to do.

Well, one of the first things He taught me was that my attitude was all wrong. Life is not about Me (nasty surprise that, but ultimately a good thing :-)

So I stopped looking for ways the church could fulfill the things I thought I needed, and asked God to show me what He wanted. That, of course, is when great things started happening - for me, to me, through me - at Oak Hills.

Oak Hills Church is not a place I go - it is a part of who I am. If you're looking for a church...isn't that what your heart is really looking for?

Try it out for yourself... – This church is probably been the biggest disappointment I've had this year. My husband and I, along with our daughter have been going for 4 months now and not only has nobody spoken to us, every time we try to get "plugged in" no one will return our calls or e-mails. We've finally given up.

My husband and I both went to bible college for worship leading but it's nearly impossible to get an audition for the team, which apparently are only once a year, because no one will return your call.

There is no group for those who are under 25 and married with children. The "young families group" is for those 25-*40* only, which personally I don't consider "young", but that's just me. The college-age activities don't have childcare available even though "both singles and marrieds are welcome to come"

I requested to help out in the nursery, (having a nursery-age child so this is appropriate) but again, no one got back to me.

Tried to find a small group in my area, but the information booth lady said she had no idea about those. I asked for a list and she told me to "look around, they're probably here somewhere". They weren't.

I'm just so frustrated with churches in San Antonio. No one seems to care about people anymore. All I want to do is worship God, but apparently no one wants a worship musician who, by the way, does tithe faithfully.

I encourage you to try this church out for yourself though. Maybe you'll have better luck than I did..

What Would Jesus Do? – Years ago when this church was small, they helped me in a desperate time of need.I wasn't a member either. They paid my rent so my kids and I weren't on the street. Even though I was unable to pay them back, I knew God would bless them for giving a lending hand. He did, they grew into a large church. My daughter, a single mom ended up in a desperate situation the other day. I told her there was a church that would help her..they cut off her electricity and I was unable to help. When she called they said they couldn't help her because she wasn't a member.

I called just to check and the lady said no they didn't help except with members...then hung up on me. I'm sorry but I always ask...what would Jesus do?? I would never attend a church who only helps those that are paying members. Thanks Oak Hills....will never attend your church. There was a time you were compassionate to outsiders...WHAT WOULD JESUS DO?

Very welcoming & diverse congregation w/many programs – This is now just "Oak Hills Church" to make more folks feel welcome. I have not noticed any implied dress code. Folks arrive in shorts and polos and even flip-flops on Sunday mornings. Recommend arriving early as seats fill up fast. Ushers will help you find a place to sit regardless of arrival time. Great teen & singles programs; many get-togethers, Bible studies and mission/camp trips available. Counseling available, though it's not free. Good networking resource. Many outreach programs for folks who need help w/childcare, job search, fellowship & more. Christian studies bookstore and library on premises. The Church is also working on opening two satellite locations. Highly recommended protestant church.
