The perfect place to shop for someone when 1) you have no clue what to get them, but 2) they like offbeat stuff. There's also costumes, toys, games and knickknacks for both adults and kids, plus balloons and party supplies. Small free parking lot in back.
Lots of unique quirky items and toys. Come here to buy your Halloween costumes, party accessories, or if your just looking for something fun.
Convenient but unimpressive selection – I expected this Sunset Strip gift store to be chock full of varied and unique greeting cards and gifts. Unfortunately, it instead seems to have dropped to the level of common randomness. The card selection is large but focused too much on the cheesy and not the unique or fun. The rest of the store is full of cheap merchandise. Prices are too high for the quality. There are better stores of this type.
Sort of Tacky Novelty Store – I was pretty disappointed when I walked into Aah's shortly after starting a job in the neighborhood. It's really just a big novelty store. Yes, that has it's place, but I thought it would be more of a stationery shop with novelties than a novelty shop with some cards.
To be fair, there have a huge selection of licensed merchandise and if you know someone who is collecting something, this is a good place to go. I've been a handful of times and didn't really see that the stick rotated much. I suppose if I really need a birthday card I'll go there but other than that I really don't envision buying anything.
Stole my money and won't accept return – I bought a Playstation 3 from Aahs at a HUGE markup on 11/17. They took it from behind the counter and put it in a bag. I paid and left. When I pulled the console out of the bag I realized they'd conned me and sold me a Japanese version. I was very angry and went to return the unopened box 20 minutes after purchase but they refused to refund my money. I told them it was unethical and bad business practice and the manager literally smiled at me and said, "I know." Please, do not ever patronize this business. They completely robbed me.
For both kids and adults, shopping for gifts here is as fun as receiving gifts from here. – Whatever you're into--practical jokes, bathroom gags, retro style, tasteful fun--it's all under one roof at this wacky funhouse. Aahs is your one-stop present shop with humongous selection of nifty gifts, acres of wrapping paper to decorate them and one of the biggest selections of cards in town. Pop culture icons reign supreme here. From the Elvis section to merchandise shrines to Marilyn, Hello Kitty and the Godfather, there's more cultural kitsch than you can shake a stick at. A few of the noteworthy novelties include tiki nodders, dancing Hava Nagila dolls, a skull strobe light and a Homer Simpson "mm-beer" cap. Or for the sophisticate, pick up chrome Playboy olive picks, jungle animal votive holders, or a classic lava lamp. Robotic dogs wag near the I Ching Monopoly, but it's hard to get past the singing desktop stress turtle.
