My Children Love This Place – My son and daughter love this place and that is the most important thing to me! The staff seems to know them and their personal learning styles. They encourage the parents to get involved and participate with parties and events. My children have both attended since they were 3 months old and are now 4 and 2. Love that they have facebook and website now.
The location is extremely convenient for anyone who lives in Falcon Pointe, Blackhawk, or Villages of Hidden Lake in Pflugerville. We actually moved homes within a mile to stay in range to continue sending our kids here as well as the other schools off Kelly Lane in the future.
The only drawback I have experienced is some years they get paid holidays such as President's Day and teacher workdays for which I have to pay to send my kids to another location those days, but the benefits overweigh this.
Trustworthy, and Exceptional Care – My two sons have been attending Kinder Haus for six years. My first son was cared for in home for six months. I was incredibly nervous about finding the right place for him. I checked out every available child care center in Pflugerville, and they terrified me. They either appeared unsafe, overcrowded, impersonal, or even the big expensive ones (Courtyard) felt like a kennel for babies. I didn't want a babysitter for my child. I was searching for a place that treated my son as an individual, and nurtured them through laughter, music, and play. I stumbled on Kinder Haus, and scheduled a visit with Ms. Glenda. At first glance, I was a little nervous about the "Mom and Pop" shop feeling. But as we toured, I saw the energy beaming from all the kids at Kinder Haus. Every classroom had children filled with smiles. What really drew me to KH was that loving feeling, the home cooked meals that Ms. Glenda prepares for the school, the truly advanced curriculum, and ultimately, the tenure of the staff. At the time I enrolled my first son (and they were on a wait list at the time), the LEAST tenured teacher had been there 7 years. Six years later, the staff now has 81 years of experience - that's an 8 year avg each! I know that Ms. Glenda, Ms. Robin, and Ms, Cyndi all have over 20 years at KH, and it's absolutely a family business. Since then, my youngest son has joined KH. He stayed at home with a Grandma that moved to my area shortly after he was born. He stayed with Grandma much longer than I would have preferred, and had issues socializing. Ms. Robin had him feeding himself, potty trained, and jammin with the other kids in just a few weeks.
Ultimately, the most rewarding value of KH has to be the core values they teach the children. My sons know all ~70 kids, even the babies by name, and they know him. The teachers rotate rooms for a couple hours each week, so they are intimately familiar with each child as well. What I absolutely adore about KH is that my boys LOVE KH. Hugs and smiles are plenty. Discipline is firm, but appropriate. Ms. Glenda and the staff hold safety at the highest standards. Yes, one of mine was bitten a few times, and one was a bitter. Rest assured, your child will be bitten no matter where they go, and if they are going to be near a Piranha, or if you have a Piranha, you want Ms. Robin & the gang at KH near by to nip that behavior in the bud. By the way, did I mention that Ms. Robin is a potty training miracle worker? Ms. Cody's smile and hugs go on as big as the Texas sky. Ms. Cyndi booming presence is the Grandma that every child respects and adores, and she even plays the piano in a grand meeting room on MWF while the whole school learns the Pledge, says their prayers, and learn seasonal songs up to and including homemade bean and bell musical instruments. Ms. Glenda drives the KH van to pick up my eldest from Kindergarten each day. A tumble bus comes out on Tuesdays to offer dance and gymnastics for all age groups. In the summer, there are tons of field trips and pool excursions. Ms. Cyndi does a bang up job keeping the Pre-K kids engaged, and preparing them for Kindergarten. Holiday parties are so fun, that's how the boys keep track of when their birthdays fall these days.
I trust Kinder Haus with my now "After Schooler" and 3.5 year old. The individual talents of these teachers are too many to list. As much guilt as I carry around about being a working Mom, and as many hours as they have to be away from me each day, it sets my heart at ease knowing that my boys are loved, TRULY loved each and every day. They are learning character building qualities that continue to amaze me, and will be carried forward through the rest of their lives.
Great teachers, great safety record, country setting – Our daughter loves it here. She started at 6 months and we've found the infant/toddler staff to be very experienced, patient, and thoughtful. They treat our baby as an individual and accomodate her dietary restrictions without question. The staff is knowledgable and versed in gentle discipline, positive redirection, and age-appropriate conflict resolution. Babies are held as much as possible from what I can tell, and each age group has an age-appropriate outdoor play area. The center is on farm land, and the kids can watch cows and donkeys through the back windows, which is wonderful for the babies and toddlers.
In response to the reviewer that mentioned biting, I think that's going to be an issue at any daycare center. The reviewer indicated that "the only action taken is to send a note home," but realistically, it would be inappropriate to punish babies, and I'm not sure what other course of action s/he would suggest. My daughter has been on the giving and receiving end of biting in the past, and I think they handle the situation appropriately. Young toddlers bite sometimes. It happens.
We ultimately chose this center because of their inspection record. Look up their state inspections online--they have done incredibly well for years. Be sure to read the explanation/comments sections. If you compare their track record to that of other centers in P-ville, you'll see what I mean. The director, Ms. Glenda, runs a tight ship and it shows.
The only cons I can think of 1) the driveway to the center needs repair and 2) it doesn't open as early as some other centers in the area.
If you're thinking about KH, call Ms. Glenda and go for a visit; meet the teachers; check out their inspection history. For us, KH is the perfect cross between an in-home care provider and a big center. You get the best of both worlds.
Kinder Haus is on Facebook now, too, so if you want to chat with parents, you'll find us there.
Nice people but not safe – My kids have been going here for a couple years and even though the staff is friendly and my kids love them, my 2 year old daughter has been bitten 5-6 times so far this year alone. 3 bites were in a 5 day span. Unfortunately, the only action taken is to send a note home to the parents saying their child has been bitten and/or is biting. I would not suggest starting your children here. We have been sucked in and it has become a dilema of weighing our child's safety against our kids emotional stability. It is a tough situation to be in and I would not wish it on any parent. Therefore, I feel I should inform parents who are considering KinderHaus of our issues so they can be forewarned and ready before committing their children to this facility.
