christmas eve! – i visited dan mckluskys on Christmas Eve 2006 with a work mate. We both enjoyed our main courses...my greek salad was AMAZING, the chicken was tender and delicious and there was plenty of feta! wonderful wine suggestions from our server. lovely, friendly attitude even the evening before Christmas!!

excellent prime rib!! – it has been several years since my first trip to dan mcklusky's. i remembered that i did enjoy myself the previous time, so decided to give it another go.

for my dinner, i had a petite filet with a lobster tail with a crab meat stuffing. about as decadent as it sounds! the steak was very lean, high quality cut of meat. this restaurant does not season their steaks, but instead just lets the beef do what it is supposed to do, be delicious! one other thing that sets dan mcklusky's apart from alot of other steakhouses, they include a salad and a side dish with your steak. that was a nice surprise. i have found that these things are usually ala carte. my dining companion had the prime rib. oh my! i usually don't go in for the more "marbled" (fattier) cuts of meat, but i gotta say that the prime rib was outstanding! i would definately order the prime the next time i am at the restaurant. they converted me! lastly, i am not the kinda gal thats gotta have chocolate, but the chocolate seduction cake was outrageous! chocolate cake with chocolate mousse filling, dotted with pieces of white chocolate..... wow

the service was right on! we had what we needed and did not feel like the server was hovering around the table.

Deeply disappointed – The first time we had dinner here was wonderful - great food, great waiter. That was about 6 months ago. This time around - not so much. The waiter was clueless. When asked about which wine he'd recommend, he told us red goes with steak. Thanks. It's sad to say but Outback has better salads, bread (which was partly rock hard here) and calamari than Dan McKlusky's. The main dishes were good, though. However after having mediocre service and so-so side dishes, we'll be having a nice steak dinner somewhere else in Austin.

Excellent Lunch – Tried lunch and was very pleased with the food and service. The prime rib lunch is very reasonable and very good. The vegetables were cooked perfectly. The bread preceding the meal was excellent and the fries served with their sandwiches were tops. An excellent place for lunch and I would assume dinner. The waiter was efficient, although aloof, which was OK with me. Would definitely go back when we return to Austin.

Unpretentious ambience and a mix-and-match meat menu make for popular prime carnivorous experience. – In Short
Simple brick walls and exposed wooden beams comprise the decor, while families and business associates constitute most of the crowd. A full bar, handily located off the main dining room, allows you to have a drink without being jostled by folks entering the restaurant. The trademark appetizer, mushroom caps, come with a puree of shrimp, cheese, spices and lemon. Diners can choose steak and seafood items or order a la carte for a mix-and-match meal.

Best Steak Ever – I had the best Prime Rib ever! Top that with the Chocolate Mousse and I must say it made my evening! Nice ambience and fast and friendly service. Thank you Dan McKluskys for making it a great evening. Looking forward to come back on a Weekend to enjoy the Life Music.

Great Dinner – Dined at Dan McKlusky's tonight for dinner. Instead of the wonderful mushroom caps, we opted for something different, the crab cakes...they were great! Dinner was the peppered new york strip, which was shown to us before cooked. Again, perfect. I really liked the cognac cream sauce. My husband had the filet. It cut like butter. We saved room for desert and tried the apple spiced cake cooked in a jar. It was worth going off my adkin's diet, every carb of it. We will be back, as this is one of my favorites

Lousy food, poor service – The food and service was horrible. We tried to order the prime rib, but they were sold out. Instead we reluctantly ordered the recommended rib eyes. The meal opened with soggy flavorless crabcakes and greasy calimari. The seafood bisque was thick and cold, while my salad was warm and limp. The rib eyes arrived well cooked but lacked flavor. I don't think they applied any seasonings at all. We didn't bother with dessert.

Valentine's Day – We have gone to McKlusky's several times. I recommend the restaurant totally, except for Valentine's day. I was very disappointed with the food. The service was still good, but the food seemed smaller and not as tasty.

Great Food, Great Service – In a town that is quickly becoming all chain restaurants, it is wonderful to go to a locally owned restaurant where they welcome you and treat you special. Our tenderloin was cooked to perfection! I had the best martini EVER! The chocolate seduction cake lived up to it's name. Will gladly return over and over.
