The atmosphere at Thai Passion is truly artful. Owner Gene Kobboon's artistic ability is depicted in every detail, and his very artwork hangs on the walls of the restaurant. His hand carvings give you a warm and inviting feeling as your expectation builds to the moment your meal arrives at the table.

The menu is full of expertly prepared choices. From warm Fisherman's Soup on those cold winter nights, to the cool and fresh spring rolls on those hot summer days, Thai Passion has something for everyone.

Open seven days a week for lunch and dinner, come in and treat yourself to a truly Thai experience.

If you find yourself hankering for late-night grub after a trip to Sixth Street or the Paramount Theater, Thai Passion is a Thai-rific place to get your noodle fix. Though the time frame between ordering and receiving food can often feel like an eternity, the quality ingredients, presentation and chatty staff help you to forget that your gut is gnawing on itself.

Stand out menu items include their Thai Passion Noodles (a.k.a. vermicelli bowl), Duck Curry and Seafood Hot Plate consisting of scallops, shrimp, mussels and squid and a photo of Willem Dafoe.

Thai Passion isn't a "hole in the wall" per se, but it's a popular lunch meeting spot for downtown types -- casual and bright, with $6.50 lunch specials. The Thai offerings are solid -- not crazy hot, not bland -- and the pineapple rice in particular has many fans. Speaking of downtown types, I should mention that Thai Passion is open until 3:00am: Useful if your downtown activities involve more vodka shots than, say, business proposals.

One of the best Thai Places in Austin – I love going to Thai Passion. I tend to go after 9pm at night either before my clubbing starts or right after. They have a good number of different types of plates to choose from and I have not had any problems with them every time I wanted to added or change something in their meals.

Gilbert (one of the waiters) has always been great to me. He remembers me by name and goes out of is way to make conversation me everytime I go there.

The prices are decent and for how much you pay for you get a large amount of food. My meals have always been prepared right with out there being any problems. The place is not over decorated and its enjoyable to just sit and talk over a class of wine with other friends. They also have a pretty good wine selection.

The only downfall I can really see is that there is not much parking. But what do you expect? Its downtown!

I really enjoy going and continue to go back. The food is great and service has always been wonderful.

Great Thai food downtown! – Thai passion is located right downtown and is the perfect spot to go after a night hanging out on 6th street, they offer the best thai food in downtown. The prices are a little high but worth it.

Bad Dining Experience – I was really looking forward to trying a great Thai restaurant in Austin, unfortunately I went here. The shrimp in my Pad Thai was "off" and the dish was inedible. I never send food back, but this was truly awful. The kitchen staff assured me that this was how the dish was, "supposed to taste." They were nice enough not to charge me for the Pad Thai. Also, the waitress didn't bring silverware or ask if we wanted anything to drink and when we did order drinks we had to do so twice because she forgot. She was very nice, but new. The more experienced hostess was just rude. Very disappointing.

bad food, 2x too expensive – This place wasn't nearly as good as the other reviews said. We had the curry and chicken satay. It looked and tasted like something you would buy frozen at costco and heat up in a microwave. And it was around $12 for each plate.

Hair in my food... – I went to this restaurant once before and I liked it, so I thought, why not try it again? The second time I went I found what can only be described as pubic or armpit hair in my pad thai. Now, I know that this kind of stuff happens sometimes, so I politely told the waitress and she told me they would bring me out a new dish. However, when the dish came back 2 minutes later, my friend and I were pretty sure that they just reheated my original meal. It seemed unlikely that they could cook a brand new meal in that little time. Nevertheless, I was pretty disgusted, but since there was nothing I could do to prove it, I had to pay full price for my meal. NOT a great experience! Also, I know Madam Mam's is probably more westernized than this place, but I also love their pad Thai much more than the pad thai at Thai Passion! Parking is difficult here, it's hard to find places on the street so your forced to pay $6 to park. Also, the waitress only came by once to hand over the food and once more after that, but we never saw her again. We had to use multiple other waitresses to get our waitress' attention. The only pro I can think of is that we got seated quickly each time. Also, the shrimp fried eggrolls are good. The atmosphere isn't bad either. Honestly, I would not recommend this place. For the price, I feel like you could go to a better place where you would get more for your money.

Love Thai food? Stay away from Thai Passion – For a person who is either Thai or knows how REAL THAI FLAVOR is, would be greatly disappointed. I'm Thai and I have to say that the only beautiful thing about this place is the atmosphere. I'd say if this place wasn't located in the heart of downtown, it would have been out of business within a few years.

First time I had their food was when I came to visit Austin, I had Phad Pet Squids. First thing that came to my mind was: "This is not how it's supposed to taste!"

Second time was when I first got here. It was a special occasion. Since the place looked really nice, I was thinking: "why not?! Let's give the place another try". Again, I was disappointed. Even my husband who is American, but had been to Thailand, was agreeing on how tasteless the food was despite of how beautiful it looked.

Third time I happened to have to be downtown and I had a craving for some Thai food so I was thinking - AGAIN- why not!? Needless to say, I could have beaten myself up for going there. It was awefully tasteless.

The way Thai food should taste is not what Thai Passion can give you.

In short, if you look for a restaurant with nice atmosphere and pretty looking food, THAI PASSION is the place for you.

But if your reason for dining out is to taste some great food, stay away from Thai Passion!

Great food, not so great service – We had dinner at Thai passion on a weekday night in a group of 5 people. The food was wonderful but the service was awful to say the least, it took the server almost 10 minutes to get us water then another 20 minutes to get our appetizers. We would have understood if it was a busy weekend night but on this night the restaurant was less than half full. Also, since we were in group of 5, a gratuity of 18% was added to our bill.

Always delivers!! – Thai Passion always delivers- I've taken clients for lunch, had dinner with my family, and stopped by late nite(1am or later)after music in Austin and have always had delicious food, courteous service, and left feeling full and happy. I must say that this is one of my top 10 favorite restaurants in Austin. I frequent the downtown location mostly, but have had lunch at the Research restaurant and it was good too. Oh, almost forgot to mention that I had my birthday party there last October and my friends were blown away over the many different tastes of each dish. It's a great place for a party !!

Great Thai – Been there a few times and almost always satisfied with the food and service. Great Beef panang and satay. Prices reasonable, service needs a little improvement...

Extremely disappointed. – Went there last night (Thursday evening) with a few friends and we were seated immediately. It took about 15 minutes before a server came over to bring us water, and probably another 10 minutes followed before someone came to take our order for appetizers. Appetizers came and were pretty good (I ordered Tom Yum, friend ordered Satay). For dinner, I ordered Pud Kra-Team Puk Thai. When it came, the chicken was as tough as beef jerky and did not look anything like the picture on the restaurant's website. I am by no means a picky eater, and for the first time in my life I asked them to take the dish back. I feel terrible doing this sort of thing, but it had to be done. The dish was better the second time, but nothing to write home about. My friends seemed to enjoy their dishes: Duck Curry, Seafood Hotplate, and the Pra-Ram. We were all disappointed with the lazy and slow service, but I was the only person that had problems with the food. It was over an hour before we started eating.
