If you're looking for some good ole Tex Mex and breakfast tacos, El Arroyo is right up there with all the best basics. Enchiladas and queso are the classic favorites.

Decent Tex-Mex in a convenient location for those picking up lunch on a break.

Yeah the food is great and the atmosphere is perfect for watching UT games, but the hilarious signs are more than enough reason to check it out!

Best in Town – This is hands down my favorite Mexican food in Austin. And it's cheap!!! The location is amazing, and the outdoor patio is so much fun, esp at happy hour.

They have a nice indoor area as well, for when weather isn't as nice. (Though you can eat outside year round, as its now covered and heated).

The burritos are my favorite, but everything is great.

Terrible food-Change in mgmt? – I haven't been there for several months and had an awful experience recently. The beef was very cheap, very chewy, and the service was very slow.

Citysearch Editorial Review – Patrons are lured in by the daily commentary featured on the sign, and then captivated by pavilions and open decks reminiscent of the Swiss Family Robinson compound. This is the kind of place where diners kick back after work or spend a balmy Saturday night in conversation with friends. Starters include a spinach con queso. Entree highlights include enchiladas del mar: folded tortillas filled with shrimp and crab and doused in light cream sauce.

Best Tex-Mex – I have only been in Austin now 11 months and I eat out about 5 times a week. By far I have had the best experiences at El Arroyo on 5th St near Mopac. I Have been going there on Thursdays for their $.99 margaritas. They are good! So far the service has been good. I like to try different things when I go there just as I do at other restaurants. The only thing I don't care for are the refried beans. I love their fajitas. I do recommend them to anyone new to Austin.

Dissapointed – I had heard lots of good things about El Arroyo but I was mildly disappointed over their very average Mexican Tex-Mex food. The chips and salsa was obviously from a bag and jar respectively, always a bad sign for any Mexican restaurant. The prices are great but I guess you get what you pay for. The portions were pretty small too which surprised me. The margarita I had, however, was top notch and the bartender was obviously heavy handed in his tequila pour, no complaints from me on that.

Ask about items not on their menu!!! : ) – I went to eat at the 5th street location with my girlfriend and the server offered us items that aren't on the menu but will be on the new menu coming out soon. They were amazing! I got the stuffed avacado and my girlfriend got the queso flameado as an appetizer. It was delicious! Next time you go, ask what they have that's not on their current menu.

great patio – We came in from Houston a couple of weeks ago for the game and had a great time. They used to have one in Houston but i guess not there any longer. The patio is the place to be on a Saturday night. It wasnt crazy busy like we thought. We were seated fast and our margaritas arrived just in time.(...try their fresh mango kind) Had the shrimp in a creamy sauce and my husband the steak plate. Service was good, food was delicious & portions were perfect ! overall a great experience

Great atmosphere and food – I recently went back to El Arroyo on 5th St. to try the new menu I have been hearing about. I did like the change from the old menu. I noticed they also have been doing som remodeling which looks a lot better. Anyway, My server was friendly. We decided to try the shrimp cocktail. This was not like any other cocktail. It had some fruity/flavor which was delicious. My girlfriend ordered the Tuna Burger and I ordered the stuffed pork chop. The Tuna Burger was good however she really enjoyed my entree better. We looked at their new drink menu and ordered some new martinis. They were good. The one I ordered was very strong so I could only drink one. Overall it was good. The changes they have made over the years have really made the palce feel cleaner. Seems to be getting fancier on the inside which makes it great for a date. It was nice to see amanger come talk to us. He mentioned the brunch has changed as well. I keep forgetting that brunch is served on the weekends. We will have to try it out sometime. The restaurant has gone from a 1 to a 5 in my book.

Holy Enchilada If there\'s one thing Austin does right every time, it\'s Tex-Mex.
