Fine, but expensive American fare. They do discounted happy hour appetizers from 5-7.

Top restaurant with jeans – Jeffrey's is a great local restaurant where you can get by in jeans and still get great service! Everything on the menu is first rate.

Impeccable service – Customer service is top-notch, as the waiters are very cordial and attentive yet not overbearing. Food is wonderful, especially the chef's course. Seared foie gras is prepared perfectly; lamb chops are not overseasoned or overcooked; desserts are simple yet divine. Although very busy and neighboring tables (limited elbow space) can get quite noisy, not once did we feel as if we were being rushed to finish.

Consistency Problems? Perhaps, but not this night... – Our dinner guests had eaten at Jeffrey's a couple of weeks earlier and were appalled. (Their words). They went through great effort to talk us out of going there. But we did. Our plan was to go Bistro 88 (read my comments on it), but it lost its best waiter, so we decided to settle on the old standby for excellent service and food. And I am very relieved and happy to say that we received excellent food and service at Jeffrey's. Indeed, our doubtful guests could hardly believe they were at the same restaurant. I have read some of the reviews of Jeffrey's, and it seems that there is a consistency problem. I hope they take care of it, because Jeffrey's is an Austin gem. It has always been the "no-brainer" of where to take out-of-towners to be impressed. On this night, everything was seemingly flawless. I encourage whoever goes there to involve the manager if their service or food is subpar. Let them know.

When you hear its great and its Not. – For years its reputation has continued to carry it along. That day is gone. Chef, your menu is longer up to par even with the touted rotation. With so many options in Austin, Jeffery's has lost is stride. The food is still ok but not really worth the bother anymore. Mainly the silver queen and walker set now. And avoid this place like the plague when lobbyists and legislators are in town. By the way, buy water here-don't drink the tap! And, get some new CARPETand furniture, truly this is EMBARASSING when someone is bringing friends to Jeffery's!

Amazing – As a long time customer of this Institution, I have NEVER had a bad experience. The food, wine, and staff are never short of spectacular. My opinion, Jeffrey's is the best restaurant in Austin - period... If any review on here was negative, it must have been an anomaly evening or a conspiracy by some other restaurant owner. Everyplace can always use improvement, they only suggestion I would make is to goto home depot and put some better door knobs (or something to grip) on the bathroom doors. My main point, I have traveled extensively and fine dining is always a part of that experience - I would put this restaurant up against any!!

Go elsewhere!! – Ay... the disappointment. My husband and i decided to have finally have a dinner out at Jeffrey's (Saturday, 8:30pm reservations). We were promptly seated (the staff from the first hello to the last goodbye were phenomenal). However, we immediately noticed how worn the carpets and dirty the floors were. The bathrooms were poorly lit, messy, and were hard to access.

We both ordered the chef's tasting menu in hopes of getting a best of sample of the Jeffrey's we've heard so much about... but we were sorely disappointed. The flavors of most of the dishes either didn't combine well, didn't taste fresh, or just seemed decent at best. The presentation of the food was also lackluster. All in all, except for the foie gras, which was fantastic, the dishes were anything from this-tastes-like-it-was- made-a-week-ago to downright average.

The atmosphere is hard to pinpoint. Plenty of blue-blood old money, that just want to feel important. Lots of date couples who want to be impressed. Some groups of vamped up girls-night-out chicks who equate money spent with quality. A few couples who just wanted to have a wonderful special dinner and felt deceived by the press. I can't understand how this place gets the rave reviews that it does.

In summary, the staff was incredible, but the food and physical interior was abysmal, especially considering their prices. Go to Vespaio's, Castle Hill Cafe, or Uchi's instead.

Romantic and Absolutely GREAT!! – Jefferey's is one of my favorite places to enjoy myself and love the atmosphere. Tonight we had a wonderful waiter name Garry and he is very attentive to everything I could wish for while dining . I had the gaspacshio with asperagus, salad arugui and was simply delicious! My appetizer was a yucca chips with oysters and main couse was the Halibut. Yes all was just perfect. Very smooth and yes expensive but worth it.It is just my way of dining at a chic upscale romantic fine dining. Highly Recommend!

An upscale eatery frequented by VIPs for its rotating menu of inventive and sophisticated New American cuisine. – In Short
A dim, cozy and clubby interior houses an upscale clientele. Regular patrons are greeted at the door by name by the friendly, efficiently unobtrusive staff. On any given night, you might dine a few tables over from Geena Davis, Henry Kissinger or George W. Bush. Starters include sesame-mushroom crepes and crispy oysters on yucca-root chips with habanero-honey aioli. There's also tender veal osso buco and beef tenderloin with mustard-peppercorn sauce.

Simply the best in Austin. – I love this place. Although it is not a place I can frequent often, when I do it is always a stellar experience. The oysters are always a good place to start. Ive tried many of the salads and am never disappointed. For you entree the Duck and Shrimp never disappoints. I also suggest the steak with its rich reduction. As for the service, you cant get any better in Austin. Now that they offer a bistro (less expensive, smaller portions) menu your occasion does not have to be that special in order to experience the best restaurant in town.

Excellent experience – We went on the spur-of-the-moment and weren't exactly dressed for it. But this being Austin... We got a nice table for 2. Johnny was our waiter. Excellent. Even with his newly-found stardom after being on the cover of the Chronicle, he was still all laughs and a good time. Wine selection was great. We had a nice Cakebread.

We split an appetizer of soft-shell crabs. They were very good. I had the ribeye for an entreé. I asked for "medium-rare, closer to rare." It was prepared exactly the way I wanted it.

One poster said they would have rather have gone to DQ for dessert. Perhaps that's where that individual eats most of their desserts. Sometimes we forget what really good food tastes like. As for the poster who says you shouldn't be looking to run into someone important: if that's what you go to a restaurant for, then no this isn't the place for you. Go because you like excellent food. And yes, medium rare DOES mean a seared outside and a rather rare inside.

The pace of the meal was excellent. Don't go if you're in a hurry. Heck, don't go anywhere if you're in a hurry. That's not what dining out is about.
